If you have or have a picc

Hello All-

I have had this picc line since January with no problems. Last night when I started the push, I felt a burning sensation. which has never happened to me before. I stopped the infusion and then my arm hurt for another 10 or 15 minutes. The saline and heparin did not burn at all. I left a message at the dr's office, but haven't heard anything from them yet.

Has anyone else experienced this with a picc line or know what happened?

You may need your PICC line replaced. Sometimes they can develop a hole or small crack. I was told by the Radiologist who put in my PICC that they should be replaced every 6 months. Not to say this is what's right for everyone, but just passing along what I was told. Glad you have called your doctor...

The drs office called after I posted this and told me to take Benedryl. It helped, but I was too sleepy. It usually doesn't hurt now if I do the push slowly. When it does hurt I take half the dose which helps the pain, but doesn't knock me out.

I will see the dr in a few days and discuss it further with him. The plan was to evaluate in November to see if I am ready to have the picc line out. I do not want to have another one, so I am really hoping I will get this out soon.
