Gallbladder

I had severe bouts of abdominal pain that could last for hours and could be bad enough that I would be literally on the floor. I went to the ER several times before diagnosis of gallbladder disease.

After they removed my gallbladder in 1992, I still had problems off and on although not usually as severe. My overall gastric health seemed to improve A LOT when I started eating gluten free (I have celiac disease).

So I've been better overall until a couple of weeks ago, when I was in excruciating pain again (felt just like gallbladder!) and ended up in the hospital. The current diagnosis is "capsulitis" which means the outer layer of the liver, called the capsule, is irritated or inflamed. I'm hurting there again today (right upper quadrant of abdomen, aka RUQ).

So I don't know what to tell you other than yes, the operation can help, but there can be other factors involved too. You may or may not be pain free after a gallbladder operation. I've heard that you can still form stones which can get stuck in the bile ducts in the liver; they actually did a CT scan and ultrasound to check for this when I was in the hospital recently.

I had to have my gall bladder removed about a year ago, & I have yet to have any more of those gut-wrenching pains. I do however notice that there are just certain things that I eat that will trigger some rather uncomfortable feelings, so I avoid those things.

As Nasalady pointed out, it will affect different people differently, as we all have different issues we have to deal with.

with that being said - I'm GLAD to have mine gall bladder out!!!!

I was told that I had enlarged or thick gallbladder walls around the time I got sick from Lyme. I think many of the folks on here have problems after doing meds for so long....but I suspect GB problems are caused by Lyme as well. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with it yet. I hope your CT goes well. I know non-Lymies that had their GB removed and said that it wasn't much of a lifestyle change.
