oh,,so that is why you are getting the cortisone??? again I have to ask ...did your lyme doc prescribe it. is your lyme doc a real LLMD?

I wouldn't take any medications from any of my other doctors without asking my Lyme doc.

have you ever tried the other things to build up your adrenals?

for me the steroids was the begining of the end but also at that time (I didn't know I had the lyme and tha was causing
all the problems).

ever read the book from fatigue to fantastic? this is why i also posted the question about hypothalamus and pituitary function.

are you seeing a lyme savy endocrynologist (is there even such a thing?)

most endocrynologist get very pissed if a general practioner prescribes steroids. or even thyroid meds.

I too have had adrenal fatigue. I went to an ND and was put on supplements and now feel much better. I've been able to walk on my treadmill the past few weeks.

That's what I'm being checked for plus other things. I do think I have it because I have all of the symptoms. Are you on hydrocortisone KO?

I don't think I low dose of hydrocortisone can hurt at all. I've read on many Lyme forums where people are taking it.

Bucci, what other things should I look at to treat the adrenal fatigue?

jc27, what supplements did your doctor recommend you take?  What seemed to help the most?

CG,  5mg 2x/day.

Hi KO-LD,

My llmd and naturopath found my adrenal fatigue. I was in the "complete fatigue" category on the chart! I was on a low dose of Cortef (steroid) for 6 or 7 months but I never really felt any improvement. The naturopath finally took me off of it. He still gives me supplements for treating the adrenals, but it changes a lot. He "muscle tests" me to see what I should take. I would have to read all the bottles' labels to see what is in them. I don't really seem to notice any difference, no matter what I take! What actually DID make a difference for me was when they began treating my low thyroid. That made a huge difference in my energy levels and ability to function. I guess I will someday take another adrenal test to see if that situation has changed. I saw an add on television for a supplement for adrenals and asked my naturopath about it. Can't remember the name of it, but he read the ingredients and said it would probably help some people, but I did not "test" well for it. It had a lot of ingredients in it.

Yes, I've been told I have adrenal fatigue. I was told to take DHEA for it, but when I did, I felt side-effects after being on it a short time so I tapered myself back off and haven't taken any since.

This was long before I was diagnosed w/ Lyme

Razzle, do you remember what dose you were on, and what side effects you had?  I just want to know what to be on the lookout for.

Side effects from the DHEA were similar to Prednisone: Irritability & water retention were the main ones I saw, but having been on prednisone prior to that, I recognized where it was going and knew I needed to get off the DHEA. I was taking 5 drops/day of the tincture, but I can't remember how much DHEA was in each drop. I tapered by 1 drop every 2 weeks until I was off. I was using this topically, because of stomach sensitivity to the alcohol in the tincture.

Yep, got that too! The doctor that has been treating my LD tested me for adrenal fatigue, and put me on 3 supplements (2 mega multi-vitamins, vitamin C based plus another) which she said I will be on for a year, and then I can start weaning off. They are expensive, of course, but well worth it. I started on these about a month before I found out I had LD and started treatment for that. I got my energy back, I'm no longer tired - and I mean tired - by 5 PM, my flabby gut is gone too! I dropped 5-10 lbs within 6 months. I wasn't overweight, but it just kept creaping up and for all the exercise I do, it wasn't budging! My doctor said the adrenal fatigue was caused by the LD - it's very hard on one's body and the immune system can't keep up.
