Anyone else with liver problems from treatment?

My daughter has been on IV antibiotics and her liver enzymes are high, she is bleeding easily, liver is enlarged, stomach is bloated, nausea, pain etc. The antibiotics have been stopped. Is the damage reversible?

I'm sorry about what your daughter is going through. My liver enzymes are already elevated and anytime I take strong meds like diflucan or antibiotics, my enzymes get higher and I can actually feel my liver swell. No one can say for sure if it is reversible but the liver can usually bounce back, especially if this is the first time that this has happened.

Is she taking anything to support her liver like Milk Thistle?

wow, that is terrrible. how old is your daughter? do they tell kids to do the detox stuff. like coffee enema and baths?

My daughter is 18. All medications have been stopped while they try to figure out what is wrong. The medical profession has me so very annoyed. Her liver enzymes have been up. CT scan shows enlarged liver. Blood pressure down. Heart rate up. Itchy skin. Nauseous and throwing up all the time. Brown urine from time to time. And bleeding and bruising. Took her to the ER one night because there was severe pain in the upper right quandrant and around her back and her heart was racing and she was nauseous and dizzy and bleeding. So what did they do? Gave her pain meds, antinausea meds and sent her home saying she just has a stomach ache. She kept saying to them something is really wrong and they just blew her off and sent her home. Seems like the cure for Lyme has caused a whole new set of problems. She had an appointment with a GI specialist yesterday. They have order tests. This one deals with the liver as well. Wish I could trade places with my daughter health wise. We both have Lyme, but I keep getting better and she keeps getting worse. I am about to turn 50. I got to live my life. She has known about her Lyme for about 3 years and probably has had it for 10 years.

Poor baby. I feel so bad for her. She may need to try a more natural route. I had to get off of all medications too but I wasn't as bad as her. My liver was also swollen. In fact, I just did an ultra sound yesterday to see why it is still swollen. I've been off of medications for a few months now.

I sure hope she feels better soon and this all get resolved.

How is your daughter doing?  Did you get any answers from docs?  I hope she is feeling better.

I had to stop taking antibiotics because of kidney and liver issues (was heading toward failure) due to the meds.   I have had to stay "all natural" for a couple years now.  It was our naturopath (ND) that was able to get my lab tests back into the normal ranges.  It took about 6 months.  He gave me various natural supplements to support my liver and kidneys and also detox stuff.  I have no clue if the damage done is permanent, but my labs have been OK since I got off of "western meds".  I have a suspicion that I am more sensitive now to everything but I think it is all because of this rotten lyme/coinfections disease.  I'm not sure if I will always be this way (sensitive to meds).

I hope you can receive help for your daughter from a good naturopath that can work cooperatively with your llmd.

My liver enzymes became elevated due to IV nutrition (known side-effect of Total Parenteral Nutrition). Discovered that IV Milk Thistle works wonders for bringing the liver enzymes down to normal. Compounding pharmacies can make this for her if necessary. Definately a Lyme-Literate Naturopath can be helpful for this...the liver can regenerate itself but like said above, it can take a few months and detoxing is important. Also might need to look into Glutathione - it is a substance that is very important to detoxing and protecting the liver.

She is now seeing a gastroenterologist who deals with the liver as well. Looking at her symptoms and the symptoms of liver problems, this has been happening for months.

Endoscopy scheduled for 3/2 in the am. She is so dizzy lately and passed out yesterday. Hope they figure out what is wrong with her....

Her sgpt was 76 and sgot 49. She had an ultrasound of her liver and it is enlarged and it looks like there are fatty deposits. The endoscopy results will be ready in 2 weeks but they did say she has a hiatal hernia.
