seeing new LLMD. Med suggestions needed!

I'm going to see a new (to me) LLMD this week.  I've been on doxy (400mg/day) and biaxin (1g/day) for nearly two years.  I was also on IV rocephin (1 month) and IV doxy (1 month) during the Winter.  I'm having trouble tolerating the doxy/biaxin combo.   I've seen some improvements but I'm still very much UP and DOWN.   What other combinations of antibiotics are worth considering?  What worked for you?

FYI.  I tested positive for Lyme (IgeneX) but negative for co-infections (testing done through Quest).

Mepron and zithormax was best for me, but once I stopped it, I went back to being sick. I didn't get better the second time I tried it.

You only take Mepron when you have a co-infection. Mepron is taken for Babesia and since needshelp doesn't have Babesia, that combination would not work for them.


needshelp- The best solution would be to talk to your new LLMD and see what he/she thinks. I'm sure they can come up with a combo that isn't so harsh on your stomach. Amoxycillian might not be as harsh as Doxy.

CG and others,

Is it worth getting co-infection testing through IgeneX? My understanding is that co-infection testing isn't that great via Quest.

You can try but co-infection testing isn't that great through Igenex either, but I'm sure it is better than Quest. LLMD's diagnose more on symptoms than anything. Ask your LLMD and see what he/she thinks.

I took Bicillin injections for awhile and got some noticeable improvements from it, but had to get off all abx when the oral abx messed my stomach up so bad. I may have been able to get more improvements from Bicillin shots had I stayed on them longer. Might be worth asking your doctor his/her opinion about it. Very EXPENSIVE unless your insurance covers it.

Gary,

I wanted my last LLMD to do bicillin shots. He acted like the shots needed to be given by a MD or nurse....is this true or can they be done at home?

My LLMD had his nurse teach my wife to do it and it worked out just fine for us. Maybe your LLMD or GP nurse can teach you to do first one then your spouse, or someone in your household, can give them to you. They're really not that hard to do in my opinion. Most people do them at home with the help of a loved one. Some people think they are painful, but I didn't think it was too bad. Alternate each time you do the shots.

I did not test positive for co-infections through Quest, but then tested positive for Ehrlichia through Igenex. My symptoms indicated Babesia, and once that was treated, my recovery was relatively quick.

Hope you get on the right track soon.

Thanks for the suggestions GWB and achievinggrace. I would like to do the co-infections test through IgeneX but not sure I want to pay for it. Haha. We'll see what this new LLMD thinks. Thanks again.
