You posted in another thread that you have Dr. J's book and the entire protocol is written out with specific instructions as far as the Perfect 7 protocol.   Perhaps you didn't read that part yet?  Do you have the softcover or hardcover?    Denise

PLEASE, everyone who has experience with any program/protocol, please do tell your story. I am not sure why some people take things to such odd controversial levels....I want to hear *personal* stories of what helped, what didn't---I think most of us are wise enough to know one person's experience may not be another's, no?...but we are all fumbling in the dark, my life is on the brink of being torn apart by this disease.
Don't let the words of some devils advocates etc. get in the way of your getting such valuable information to all of us who suffer. Forums are for sharing personal experiences, it's sad when someone is rejoicing for having found some relief is labeled as "promoting" or "selling" something. That's ludicrous...and unbelievably mean.
For those of you who have found help, I am so glad for you. As a recently diagnosed person I am simply seeking where to place my initial energy, hope. I expect trial and error, and I believe not one model fits everyone....so please hear how much stories of healing help keep my chin up, and any information about what personally helped you is sooo welcome.
I, too, struggle with navigtating the various protocols out there. I thank everyone who has opened up and shared their journey, it has helped. Truly. I already feel more hopeful. Keep it up.

yes, what seekingbalance said. We all want to hear your stories, or most of us do. At the end, we are all adults and make our own decisions. I do believe that the price is also very reasonable for how many hours they put into. I was in a car accident and my Physical therapist gave me a massage and helped me stretch for 10 minutes (or less!) and I did all of the rest by myself. I was paying together with the insurance, over $200 per hour! For 10 minutes! Any of you tried RIFE machines?

This is probably my longest post ever…but if you're curious about my Lyme journey…here it is so far. It is not all inclusive. I don't share all the details, but this gives you the general idea. It is my desire that sharing about my path to healing will be beneficial to you in making decisions on your path to healing.

Prior to 2003, I had never heard of Lyme Disease. Then in the Fall of 2003, I was bit by a tick, had the bulls-eye rash, classic symptoms and was treated the first time with 10 days of amoxy. My MD (#1) told me, "We do not have Lyme Disease in Oklahoma, so you do not have Lyme Disease. However, I will give you this abx, amoxy as a precaution." On day 5 of taking amoxy I was deathly sick (headache, body so painful could not stand to even be touched, couldn't see straight, could hardly move etc.) So….

So…I went to the ER. Of course, in hindsight I know that was a herx. The MD (#2) took one look at the bulls-eye rash, saw how much pain I was in and told me, "We do not have Lyme Disease in Oklahoma" so you need to be checked for MS and Lupus." The MD in the ER did not do anything else. I never followed up for MS and Lupus.

I stopped jogging and doing other outdoor activities that would make "how I feel" worse. I was so tired. Life just went on; I didn't really know what else to do. I did improve some. However, I took a turn for the worse and had, yet, another bulls-eye rash (lucky me, huh?, many people don't even get the rash. Smile). I saw a different MD (#3). He took one look at the rash and told me outright, "That looks like the Lyme Disease bulls-eye rash." He left me in the examining room alone and came back about ten minutes later. He said, "I'm going to write in your chart 'malaise' and send you to The Infectious Disease Specialist in OKC. I thought, "Now we're getting somewhere."

It took about two months to get into the IDS. So this is MD (#4). It was not a pleasant experience, as others who have seen an IDS has experienced. He was a very angry person and yelled at me, "Oklahoma does not have Lyme Disease". I couldn't get out of his office fast enough. My Elisa test was negative…he was quite pleased to call me with his proof. By that time it was April 2004.

I continued to deteriorate through the Summer of 2004 and developed neurological symptoms. By Christmas 2004 I was putting the milk carton in the washing machine and dirty clothes in the fridge. However, the thing that finally "woke me up" was driving in my car and not being able to find the cruise control. We had had that car for six years! I knew something was terribly wrong. It really shook me up. When I arrived home my husband and I talked. He got online and looked up my rash. There it was…Lyme Disease…We read all the symptoms…yup that was me. Classic. Exactly.

We found an LLMD in MO. My first appt was March 2005. He showed me a picture of rashes and asked if I saw mine? I did and pointed it out. He said that was proof enough. However, he did follow up with the Western Blot and it was positive for Lyme Disease. He started me on abx. As long as I was sick on the abx (herxing), he had me stay on it. When I started feeling better, he switched me to a different one. We went at a slow pace to keep the herx "more tolerable". I do have a high tolerance for pain, never have taken pain pills, but it was the exhaustion that I could not combat. At times I became so tired, I could not get out of bed. I couldn't even pray I was so sick. I just laid in bed and in my mind whispered, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus". I was on abx for 14 months. Through it all, it is amazing that I didn't miss more work than I had.

Finally, I was off abx but I was a different "body". I just figured I'd never have my "old" active life back again–hiking, jogging, biking, etc. But, at least, I was ok. One year later I relapsed.

I went to a LLMD in TX as it was closer to home. Again abx but this time for 8 or 9 months. Again, I was very sick. This doctor's protocol was somewhat different. Similar abx's but he was for higher doses. His philosophy was–suck it up if you can, and you'll get to the "other side" of this disease faster. Since I could tolerate the pain…I thought, "That's fine with me." A few months after starting this protocol I received a PM from someone encouraging me to start exercising and shared that it changed their life and now, that woman, was running marathons. THAT got my attention and I was motivated. I started doing isometric exercises…like 30 seconds to start. I purchased some stretch bands to strengthen my muscles (which had become quite weak). Over a course of time, I built up to 45 minutes. I also added walking. But I could not jog or do other more active activities.

March 2009, finally I was able to get off abx. I was feeling better than the previous time when I had stopped. I could not only walk, but added jogging. I continued with my isometric exercises.

I relapsed again April 2010. I had flashbacks of life on abx. By now I had read all of the Lyme Forums. I google searched various options. I "educated" myself as best as I could. I had read hundreds of people's posts on the Forums, although I rarely posted myself. I read of people suffering with Lyme Disease on abx some 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 30 years or more and not getting better!!!! I read their desperate cries for help. I read of those who had committed suicide as a way of escape. To me the writing was on the wall. I knew one thing for sure, the abx route was not the way I wanted to go.

I read GWB's thread about the Hansa Center (and I've posted on it, too, as I'm his wife). So I not only had the advantage of reading his post, I saw first hand the difference Dr. J's protocol has made and continues to make in Gary's life. His quality of life is much better, and he is doing things that he couldn't do less than a year ago.

I decided to go on Dr. J's protocol too. I continue to do very well. His remedies and the detoxing is making all the difference in my world. I am not sick like I was on abx and that alone is worth it. I am living, instead of lying in bed sick, the way I was on abx.

That is my story so far…and Gary and I both continue to update the Hansa Center thread.

Thank you Rhonda so much for your post.....with your permission I'd like to copy it and send it to my father (completely unidentified of course, not even your name), as he, I know, is not saying anything about my choice to go the "natural" route (not antibiotics) but thinks it's bull. He's a full Western MD believer. I could use his support.
I am so thankful I stumbled on my alternative-wise doc from the start, who did not give up to find the true cause when all we could diagnose was fibromyalgia. After foor negative yet "suspicious" Lyme test results we got a positive hit on additional testing on band 31. (Igenex offers more precise testing on band 31 to confirm it is Lyme, not some other pathgen, responsible for the positive result).
I have to say, three days ago I sat at the computer with my fingeer hovering over the button "place your order" for Cowden's month 1 of tinctures for his protocol, now I am confused as to which way to first turn for treatment, yet encouraged.
Thank yu again for your story.
Oh-question: with Dr. J's protocol, did you do the less comprehensive (i.e. more affordable package), or the full blown package?

Hi. I've been wondering, does Dr. J's protocol treat only Lyme, or are coinfections also treated? I feel like it will be years before I'm even past the babesia let alone the bartonellas before I can even concentrate on treating the Lyme disease. When I get to the Lyme I plan to try natural remedies first. So far I have not encountered anyone who has had good luck with a natural treatment for these coinfections.

Also, I have difficulty swallowing large pills. Do Dr. J's herbal remedies come in tinctures, pills, or what? If pills, are they small?

Rhonda, thanks for sharing your story..  Funny, I live on Long Island (right now anyway) and I was told by several doctors that lyme doesn't exist on Long Island, yeah right??   Hellooooooo!   Anyway, I'm so happy that you are doing well on Dr. J's protocol, woo-hoooo!

Seekingbalance, welcome to the forum! First off, I will be blunt..  Most (not all) of the members here do NOT get support from their family members so please don't expect your Dad to understand alternative medicine... You said it, he thinks it "bull"...  Please don't waste your energy trying to change his mind because the odds of that happening is rare and you are only setting yourself up for disappointment..   I know, I wanted my Mom to understand and she never did..   And I learned how to accept that.

Unless you want your Dad to pay for it, well, I don't know about that part as that's your personal business.   This is the place for understanding alternative medicine and getting support as well as knowledge.    

Cowden?  I tried part of the Cowden protocol, didn't help me.   I don't see any Cowden (or Nutramedix) product that bind up toxins, especially targets ammonia (the worse toxin of all).   I have not met anyone who only used the Cowden protocol and became better and stayed better, same goes with antibiotics.. 

Why Dr. Jernigan (the protocol I used over 4 years ago)?   Because his protocol is just not about taking his botanicals, that's the easy part.   It's about heavy detoxing (which I believe is half the battle in getting better), addressing the mind and spirit as well as the body.   For instance, if a person is in a really stressful situation and doesn't change their situation, I doubt they are going to get better thus stress plays a HUGE role in this disease as well as any other disease..  

Attitude also plays an important role in disease.. any disease.  One can choose to feel sorry for themselves (I had my days where I pitied myself as I am only human) or say to themselves "I am going to get better!"

I am basically a positive thinker and I believe that really helped in my healing journey..   Funny, my parents were total opposites, my Dad was a positive thinker and my Mom a negative thinker and I observed them both and decided my Dad's way was much better!   He was such a happy go-lucky man and I am grateful I had him for my father.

Anyway, I suggest buying Dr. Jernigan's book and read that first.   As Rhonda said, educate yourself and that requires reading...   Sounds to me like money is an issue, hey, money was an issue with me too and still is!   I bought 2 of Dr. J's botancials which cost me about $100.00 a month plus add the cost of the detoxing stuff:  epsom salts, hydrogen peroxide, ginger, etc.   For about 3 months I bought 3 of his botanicals as that was part of the protocol which I know has changed so I don't know about the cost of it now.  I know Dr. J. developed new products so perhaps Rhonda can tell you about them.

Rose:   Yes, Dr. J's protocol treats ALL the coinfections.   You see, his view is to restore the body to where it was before a person got infected resulting in a strong immune system so one's body can fight any infections on it's own.   That involves taking his botanicals, lots of detoxing, healthy diet, etc.

Once again, I suggest reading his book..   His book is packed full of so much information that you will be fascinated or at least I was!   His book also addresses biofilms by the way.  This is a doctor who thought he was really going to die from this disease and he healed himself and decided to help others, yes, a very compassionate man indeed.   Bless him!

I also read Buhner's book "Healing Lyme" and found that interesting as far as the reasons antibiotics don't help chronic lyme disease...  I didn't care for his suggestion of herbs as who knows what they are really buying?   At least with Dr. J's botanicals a person knows exactly what they are getting and it's safe.   But that's another story and this post has become wayyyyy too long...

Thank you thank you for all your responses! It helps guide me a bit...and I do overly seek approval, .....yes, money is an issue, but obviously this is my priority. I will read up...if I sound hesitant on that point, it's the brain fog thing...I get tired just thinking about reading, but I have to do it. And I am a researcher at heart. I need to set up a logical plan that I will follow. So tentative plan: Dr. J's book, to decide if it's for me, your detox recommendations Denise (as posted on the intro thread), and a few additions perhaps. And positive thinking.

I have no idea when I was bitten...2 years ago or 20, in Minnesota or in Europe. Who knows? BTW, I did go through two horrid pregnancies 2005 and 2007 (2nd unplanned!)--pregnancy-induced hypertension, weak and nauseous *every day* for 7 months, both kids premature by 8 weeks (emergency c section due to the hypertension). So I highly suspect I had Lyme then....Luckily from all signs they are happy, healthy kids (ages 3 and 4 now). But now obviously worried about their being infected....

In answer to your question, first of all, Gary was there for the two week (I call it "jump start") at the end of January 2010. Of course, I was with him.

While I was there I did see one of the doctors about an ongoing yeast infection that I could not shake since my abx route. Even though I had not taken abx for 8 or 9 months I still was having "issues". My LLMD prescribed me, "Diflucan", plus I'd used the store bought stuff…nothing helped. (FYI, I never had problems with yeast infections…all my life…until abx!) Anyway, I began using a product that Dr. J invented called "Yeast Ease"! It works!!!! Also while we were there in January, Gary wanted me to do some "things" too. So I had several massages. Oh_my_goodness…I'd never had a massage before…ahhhhhhh! We've tried to find someone here in OKC…no luck. Melissa at the Hansa Center is the BEST! Also I had the foot detox bath too.

We got Dr. J's book and I read it at home. I read, in the book, that one of his daughters had been healed from leg paralysis and it got me thinking about some problems that I had. My right vocal cord had become paralyzed due to a surgery (I actually share about it on GWB's Hansa Center thread)…anyway…I contacted the Hansa Center regarding any possibility of my vocal cord being healed (my ENT said there was no hope). Dr. J was optimistic. So I made an appt for March to see him…when Gary was scheduled next to see him.

So…Gary went back last March (what I call a "tune up") for adjusting his remedies and more personalized treatments. The doctors use BRS (Bio-Resonance Scanning) invented by Dr. J to test the remedies, etc with your body and make adjustments as needed.

I was seen by Dr. J and began taking homeopathic remedies for my throat. I feel like a miracle is taking place because my voice is improving. I mean…people are noticing the difference in my voice!!! (Again, I share about that on Gary's Hansa Center thread.)

I had a follow up visit at the end of April…to see how things were going with my throat situation…and to have any adjustments made to the remedies. While I was sharing with him, I told him my latest symptoms…Lyme Disease…I did test positive for Lyme with BRS testing. That is when Dr. J began treating me for Lyme. I also tested positive for two co-infections, parasites, and other stuff too.

That was a long explanation to get to your answer...No, I did not go for two weeks. However, since I am being seen by Dr. J and he is using the BRS testing…my protocol is tailored to my specific needs. His book is more "generic" for lack of a better word and will work fine for many, if not most, people.

I have to agree with Deejavu…MUST, MUST, MUST DETOX!!! I know this is making a huge difference for both Gary and me.

On a side note, I am so thankful your children are happy and healthy. That is wonderful!

The title of the book is, "Beating Lyme Disease" and the subtitle is "Living The Good LIfe in Spite of Lyme" by Dr. David A. Jernigan. Be sure to get the SECOND EDITION! Deejavu, among many others, have just followed "The Perfect 7 Protocol" as outlined in the book (or an earlier book) and have gotten better or are getting better.

Of course, going to the Hansa Center, having a program more tailored to your needs would be optimum. I would imagine, depending on appt availability a person could go for a day, two, a week, etc. But you would need to call the Hansa Center and double check that.

However, being able to go for two weeks, like Gary did, probably saved his life. He was very sick and continues to improve. His quality of life is better than it's been in probably 3 or 4 years, and we are praying for his total healing. He does plan to post soon, an update, on the Hansa Center thread.

I know this is a Lyme Forum and perhaps the picture you have of Dr. J is that he only treats Lyme Disease and co-infections. Actually, he is a specialist in treating Lyme Disease. He is a brilliant scientist. He thought he was going to die from Lyme Disease...so while he was suffering he actually developed the protocol for himself (he is the picture of health at 6'7")...and now the protocol is helping countless others.

Anyway...patients with Lyme Disease is just one group of patients that the Hansa Center treats. The doctors treat everything you can imagine…from AIDS to cancer to…you name it. While we were there he was treating a person with kidney failure (his own doctors had done all they could), a person with a broken ankle ( I was shocked by the end of one week that person was walking on their foot!), a child with toxic poisoning, well, you get the idea.

Also, he treats people who "aren't even sick". I know that sounds strange…but he treats Olympic hopefuls and other individuals who just want to reach their optimum health.

So the Hansa Center is much more than "just a clinic for patients with Lyme Disease".

BTW, you share that you have difficulty swallowing large pills. Dr. J's herbal remedies and homeopathics that I am taking are liquid.  However, he has given me some supplements that are pills (from various companies) which I don't have any problem swallowing. I would venture to say, from my experience, he would be more than willing to work with you on that.

I would just encourage people not to wait until they are so sick like Gary, doctors had given up help for him and we were desperately looking for an answer. I wish that alternative had not been our last option, or last resort. Yet, I trust God for His perfect timing.

I thank God for Deejavu who told Gary about Dr. J and the Hansa Center. You, my dear, are a special angel!

My thinking is, and my experience since this relapse, the sooner a person is treated the better!!!

Thank you Traveler and Daisy for all of the information. I appreciate the time you took, and your willingness to share your experience and knowledge. Reading the title, I think I bought this book last Fall when I was first diagnosed; just have to find it and read it. It's good to know there are treatment options, and your stories are very inspiring. I don't want to offend anyone here, my question is a sincere one, but yesterday I got the new issue of CU and it featured supplements to never take because they are dangerous. One was lobelia. Coincidentally, the thread on here that featured a link to a detoxing product (I think) of Dr. J's that contained lobelia and I became concerned. When you are doing the natural products he sells, how do you get your liver/kidney function tested to be sure you are tolerating the product?

Hi Rose,

I remember someone brought up lobelia years ago and the type Dr. J. uses in his botanicals is a totally different variety and very safe.   I had researched lobelia years ago and found out all the different species of that plant...

I deliberately won't read Cure Unknown because it sounds so negative (from what others had posted about it) and I don't need any more negatives in my life, no way!   If I was going to buy another book, it would probably be a book about botanicals or the Detox Box.

Deejavu - Thanks for telling me that. I will have to investigate the Detox Box - is that a book? I have read Cure Unknown; it was the first Lyme book I read. It was very informative, and I've given it to family members who wanted to understand more about the disease, but I do agree that it didn't leave a positive impression. I say that, but the Lyme friend who recommended it to me thought it was very positive because so many people in it got better.

I just started on an herbal tincture for babesia called A-bab. I'm looking forward to seeing if it makes a difference.

Once again, thanks for the information. I feel really fortunate to be a part of this forum because I don't have to just accept what a doctor tells me; I know that there are many alternatives for treatment available.

I am typing slowwwwwwly because I'm still laughing at Traveler's words...

Anyway, yeah, the Detox Box is a book but I decided not to buy it (I read the reviews and it calls for buying lots of supplements), I was simply curious to what this doctor had to say.

The thing is is that there's so much detox information in Dr. J's book, things that I still have not done but want to do.. One is a fasting but with my menopause, I don't think I have the patience to fast...  The one with Wolfberry Juice, etc.   Traveler's liver flush recipe sounds easier and it's not a fast..  I need to find time to get out Dr. J's book and look at all the other detoxing he writes about...

There is also a contrasting bath (I think it's for the feet)...  When I have the time I will post the instructions..

And you are so right, it's so good to know there are options out there.. That treating lyme disease is not a cookie cutter protocol...   What works for one may not work for another..  And I do believe we must be our own advocates since we know our bodies the best...

Yes, I went to Amazon and checked out the Detox Box book. I do not eat fruit, so it didn't sound as if that would work for me. I was interested when I read about the anti-yeast thing from Dr. J. Right now I'm not having issues, but will keep that in mind in the event they crop up again. Never heard of Wolfberries. Glad you're having a jovial evening! Laughter is good for us all.

I am so glad you asked that question.  I will clarify.
 
The Hansa Center is not a One Size Fits All clinic. Treatment is very specific and tailored to each individual.  A person is only charged for the Treatments that he/she receives..for example: tests, time with the doctor, therapies, treatments, botanical and/or homeopathic remedies, supplements, etc.--each of these have a specific price. At the end of each day, an itemized invoice is given to the patient. Obviously, if a patient is there for two weeks (like Gary) the bill is greater than if the patient was there for one day (like me).

Regardless if a patient is there for one day, two weeks, or a month…I can guarantee you that the Treatment received will be optimum for you, for the time you can be there…that is the heart of the doctors and that has been my experience. It is obvious that the desire of the doctors, actually the entire staff, is to see results now.

When Gary and I have been Treated at the Hansa Center, we were of the mindset--everything that the doctors deemed appropriate and beneficial for our unique situations--we wanted. Gary's itemized invoices, on the same day, were different than mine, obviously, because we had different Treatments.

Perhaps we could have passed on the massage, detox foot bath, infrared sauna, or whatever, and saved some money, but I'm not sure about that, you would need to call the Hansa Center to find out. I can say that both Gary and I are glad we did not opt out of anything. We're glad we followed through with all the Treatments the doctors deemed best for us. It was definitely worth it.

You mention about setting up a logical plan to follow. Oh, yeah, logic and balanced is good! As Deejavu says DETOX, DETOX, DETOX. That has become my mantra too. DETOX is a must!!!! I never thought I'd be saying that a year ago. Smile. Following is just part of my DETOX routine…trust it will be helpful:

Daily, AM and PM - Dry Skin Brush (If I'm taking a bath, I always do this before my bath.)

Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings - Hydrogen Peroxide/Epsom Salt/Ginger Bath (Dr J's "recipe" in book)

Saturday evenings - Strengthening/Nutritive Bath (Dr J's "recipe" in book)

You sound like Gary and me. Ha ha. We asked that exact question and a zillion others--for real! The doctors at the Hansa Center have the patience of Job.

Over one year ago, Dr. J stopped using lobelia completely. The next edition of his "Beating Lyme Disease" book will show that revision. At the same time, Dr. J made it clear to us that the main reason he stopped using lobelia is because of the bad rap lobelia is getting (bad rap is my words…but basically that was his intent). He believes the research (he even gave us links, which we checked out) show that the benefits of lobelia are amazing. However, in light of people's concerns he went back to his "scientific drawing board" and reformulated the Neuro Antitox Formulas. I imagine some of the old posts on HW do not reflect this current information.

As far as tests for liver/kidney…I never had labs done my first go around with abx. My second go around with abx my LLMD ordered labs. Presently, I have labs done here in OKC and FAX the results to the Hansa Center. My labs are normal. As for Gary, being on abx for five years (including shots) plus all the contrast for numerous tests MD's had done to try and figure out what was wrong with him--damaged his kidneys. He was seeing a nephrologist regularly. After being on Dr. J's Treatment for about three months, he had labs and 24 hour urine test done for the nephrologist…the nephrologist's office called and cancelled Gary's appt as the results were within the normal range. That was pretty awesome!

Rose, just to add to what Rhonda (daisyrlb) said, yes, the Lobelia plant substance has been removed from all of Dr. Jernigan's remedies. However, if you do a google search on this plant, you'll find a good amount of information touting the benefits of this plant. Also, like Denise mentioned, there are different varieties of the Lobelia plant. Dr. Jernigan never puts anything in his remedies that will poison them.

Keep in mind, when he developed the remedies, many of them he took himself since he had Lyme disease, so there would be no reason for a person who is an expert in botanical medicine to take something that he knows would poison himself. But, that's all beside the point now. He took it out of his remedies so that people would not need to worry about whether they were getting "poison" in their medicines. They weren't then, and they aren't now.

No offense taken at all. Glad you asked the question. Hope Rhonda and I were able to give you satisfactory answers. I'm curious, what is "CU"? Is it a magazine that can be found online? If so, would you mind providing a link to it or a website to where one can read more about CU? What does CU stand for?

By the way, not to defend the Lobelia plant, that really isn't important in light of the fact that Dr. Jernigan doesn't use it anymore, but if you are curious to read differing views on this plant here's a couple of good links to read:

As Rhonda mentioned, my kidney tests passed with flying colors. My nephrologist was very pleased with the results. My recent liver tests done by my GI doctor were normal. So, all is good there! :-)

Not completely related to the topic, but speaking of poisons, this is something a friend of mine who has a pharmaceutical background sent me. "If people knew the poisons they were taking in the pharmaceutical realm they would really be up in arms. The average American consumes 12 different prescriptions. Coumadin for thinning the blood is nothing but rat poison that you can buy from Ace Hardware. Premarin is derived from Horse urine and has likely led to the death of many thousands of women through increasing cancer. Blood pressure meds are often from snake venom".

Yuk, who'd have ever thought that popular medicines were made from poisons like these?

Hello, and thanks for the information Rhonda and Gary. Gary, I am so happy to hear your kidney tests came out normal after treatment at hansa; I wouldn't have thought a reversal in kidney damage was possible! My late husband died of complications from kidney failure, so I am familiar with at least conventional wisdom in that regard. Confirms what I always think: that our bodies want to be healthy. No argument here about the dangers of pharmaceuticals. Until last Fall and my Lyme et.al. diagnosis, I was a natural healing type, following a wholesome diet of organic and unrefined natural foods, using natural products in my house and on my person. I dislike putting toxins in this body I've worked so hard to keep clean. After going through the whole kidney failure cycle with my husband, I am probably more concerned than most about the effects of meds and other toxins, including natural ones, on my body. I won't even use pain killers. That's why when I read in Consumer Reports (CU is consumers union that puts out the magazine) about lobelia I had questions.

Tonight I read an article on Dr. J's webblog that I found very interesting. It does make a lot of sense to me... the importance of what we put into our body...including and especially food.

Has me thinking about being exposed to so many toxins...I'm about ready to start that Ningxia Red Juice cleanse that Denise talked about earlier. I already bought the ingredients but have been waiting for the right timing, which I think is soon. smilewinkgrin I'll keep you posted.

I am new here, only posted a few posts. This doc sounds great, because it makes sense we get rid of all the bad staff in our body, in order to heal. I've read most of the posts but not all in this thread. Don't have time, plan to come back and read it all.

I have a question: Is it possible to buy the book and do everything (or most stuff) home? I know it won't be quite the same, but is it possible to try? I have 3 small children (one is an infant) and I can't travel. I have been diagnosed with lyme last year. Not sure how long I had it--maybe 2 yrs, maybe 10 or even longer. I was ok for one year (after 3 weeks of ax) but now I feel pretty lousy--some days worse then before I was diagnosed. I had 4 tests after the ax, one --, the next 2 +, the last 1 --, my PCP thinks I am cured, I think I am not (based on the symptoms). Or maybe is a co-infection, as I was not tested for those. All tests were done by QUEST and they look quite different, results wise. I had Lyme, then I got pregnant while on ax for Lyme, and then I had a car accident--not a good last year. After I gave birth (baby seems ok), I was given steroids for the pain (from the accident: back and leg injuries) and ever since the steroids, I feel worse and worse, I wake up every morning not looking forward to the rest of the day -- AT ALL! Symptoms come and go, some days are pretty bad, others a bit better.

Sometimes I ask my children to help me find stuff because I can't remember were I put anything, I became really clumsy (dropping and breaking stuff all the time, bumping into stuff) etc I believe the reason the last test came -- is because of the steroids, as it was taken a few days after I was given the shot.

I read that Dr. J's treatement is taylored to ones' needs--but as long as it is all natural, I don't think it would hurt me if I do it home

I am changing my PCP and also trying to find an LLMD. I have a few referals and have to make some calls tomorow, but I am also opened to other suggesstions. I am not as sick as some of you, but I am getting prepared so that hopefully I will never have to endure what some of you had to. You are all so brave!

PS: Does Dr. J advises agains breastfeeding if you have lyme or if you suspect you relapsed while BF? My Obgyn says it's ok to BF even if you suspect having Lyme, but most literature I've read says it's ok ONLY if you are on ax while BF-ing bec. the spirochetes have been found in breast milk. Any help is appreciated. I am afraid I am poisening my baby...

If you have lyme, yes, you are passing the lyme bacteria to your baby by breast feeding.. not a good idea unless you are on antibiotics.

Daisy - my gosh, 20 lbs of juice a day! I'm sure I don't ingest 20 lbs of anything a day. I like the juicer, though, and think it's a good idea. I especially like that the comments say it is easy to clean. Thanks for the link. Do you drink 20 lbs of juice a day? Is that part of the Hansa treatment?

You have no idea how hard this is for me--harder then me dealing with my own health issue...  I called a very good LLMD yesterday.  I called again today and I asked the lady to ask him a question for me--he was kind enough to answer my question through her.  He said if he was me, he would not do it.

Problem is the first few months my baby could not even tolarate breast milk, lots of throwing up + tummy pain.  Now she is fine, but I am afraid if I try the formula, problems will return.  That stuff tastes so gross, I have tried it and I can't even drink it!  The doc is going on vacation until the 20th, so I am on my own--seems that's the case with most of the ones I called...  I have to make a few more calls, but some of them are not in today...
