I've had "Meniere's" syndrome for about 10 years and for the past 18 months had a horrible "flare". Vertigo was so bad that I had to lie on the floor in one position for hours and hours. Finally had to quit work (I worked 12 hour shifts in an urgent care clinic as a Med Tech) Had a "procedure" done on my right ear back in Dec. and was on cortisone for SIX weeks following. Came down with shingles three weeks after stopping the cortisone and a month later started having Lyme symptoms. Took another two months to diagnose (I asked for the Lyme test!)
What I've finally concluded is that I have had Lyme for years and the only reason it reared its ugly head was because my immune system cratered due to the cortisone.
My feeling is that the "Meniere's" is actually a "symptom" of Lyme disease! I am now on Klonopin---a very small dose 0.025mg b.i.d., but it is enough to keep the vertigo at bay. When I do have breakthrough vertigo, Valium is what I use. It is a vestibular supressant, as is the Klonopin. You might ask your doctor for a RX for Valium---I only take a quarter of a 1 mg tablet to start with. It's usually enough to knock the vertigo without putting me to sleep. :)
