Hi all, I know someone who needs help because she is facing these.  Child has lyme and also diagnosed with autism.  Anyone faced this challenge before?  Know anyone who councils it?  Thanks so much in advance!

Unfortunately I know nothing about this, but I really wanted to wish you the best of luck!!!

In my readings, I have read of quite a few children that had been diagnosed with Autism, but saw a marked improvement once they were treated for tick-borne diseases. I pray that this will be the case for this Lady.

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear this. I think most people who don't know the facts of the case firsthand would be very reluctant to get involved, but maybe that's just my legal background talking...there are certainly advocates out there to help people, especially regarding MBP...often groups that were started by mothers who were accused themselves and had to go through the whole horrifying process... Any MBP advocate could probably help, despite any knowledge of Lyme (though if you could find one who does, that would be hugely beneficial).

I've watched several documentaries on MBP and this is actually mentioned in several books I've read on Lyme (I've read quite a few - the well-known ones - so I couldn't tell you which to reference), but I'm sure if you did some research online you could find out... There are also studies linking autism to Lyme (among other things), so you may want to research this as well. I think the bottom line in most of these cases is the objective data in the medical reports - you really need supportive physicians, who in turn can advocate for you.

I truly wish your friend all the best. There isn't much worse than being wrongly accused of hurting your own child...

Tallison -- I am so sorry about your friend -- this is heinous! (sp?)

I am NO expert, HOWEVER, charging/identifying a mother as having MBP is an extremely grave charge, as we all can imagine. SO, SHE will need to make sure she creates a detailed journal/MD visits/ Labs/ etc etc etc.

AND, whoever is making these accusations MUST be held accountable! This accusation is way too serious to let it go.

IMO, your friend needs to get on the offensive and not the defensive. YOur friend needs to point fingers at her accusers.

Good luck with that, but she needs to force their hand.

Hi!  Yes, this is indeed a difficult situation.  I am going to research to see if I can help get an MBP advocate.  Thanks everyone, for your comments!  I would love for her to be connected with other folks whom have been accused of this so that she can feel less isolated.

My name is Sandi... unfortunately... seems like once a person is charge with something... innocence does not seem to matter... even if found innocent... and much worse if the child is taught that the mother committed acts she did not... but how to defend a he/she said thing... or hearsay... look for National Advocates.. your local mental health associations.. Independent Living Centers which are funded across the nation by the states... State Mental Health Associations... just a place to start or even your local human service center... all should have access to info.. or rather might... in this judge by media atmosphere we have going in our country... hard for people to get fair trials...Sandi

Try contacting your state's lyme association and also ILADS for ideas. Maybe they have recommendations of good lawyers etc. that are already knowledgable enough (about lyme) to help. Also, contact the association----I think it is called Lyme Induced Autism Foundation? If you google lyme and autism, I'm sure you'll find it. They might also have helpful suggestions.

Please listen to rivergirl. The dept of social services can really make a lot of trouble.
It would be best to get legal advice if you know you are under investigation.
Will pray for your child's speedy recovery.
