- alkaline water, deep breathing exercises, light yoga, light exercise, & detox baths (the one mentioned in the "New to Lyme" thread is AWESOME!) put oxygen in your system (think internal oxy-clean)
- Netti pot (cleans your nasal passages so that you can breathe more fully- and get more oxygen in your system)
- meditation & visualization
- aromatherapy (can help boost mood, clear the fuzzies out of your head, increase concentration & focus, and much more. It helps me mostly gets the edge off so I can get up and take care of myself)
- music therapy (the sound waves can strengthen your body's ability to eradicate disease, and in some cases the sound actually makes bad buggies explode & die!)
- Massage therapy and energy work (It boosts your immune system and has a HUGE detox effect. I go to school for this right now. I study nutrition, herbs, aromatherapy, relaxation methods, Chinese & ayurvedic medicine, and kinesiology there too. Even going to school part time has been a HUGE challenge for me, but the benefits and information I learn about
healing far outweigh the negatives! most of the stuff I list here is stuff I learned at school and use for my clients and myself now)
- light therapy (from a light box- in small dosages it will decrease nausea, boost energy, increase your mood, and help you sleep better so that you can get the full amount of rest you need. you use it for 10-20 min when you first wake up. my light box is literally one of my most valued possessions! I got a really high quality one on ebay for half the price. if you do look to buy one, make sure you do a lot of research before you buy because there are a lot of different kinds and many of the "cheep" ones are scams.)
- I also follow a strict schedule. I try to be as regular as possible about
the time of day I take meds and eat, sleep, etc. This lets my body devote more time to fighting disease. the body is highly dependent on regularity and will release hormones for sleep, food, extra energy, rest, concentration, and pretty much anything you can think of, at the same time each day. If you don't have a strict schedule, your body has to expend extra energy to regulate and compensate for your activities. By following a strict schedule, I can therefore depend on my brain to be clear for a least a few hours at the same time each day, and to get the sleep I need every night, and other things, even on bad days. You slowly build up tolerance and strength this way. The light box does wonders in helping this whole process!)
- acupressure/acupuncture (boost your natural immunity, among other things. I got a little magnetic point massager for $15 so that I can do acupressure at home but it will be almost effective as acupuncture. the magnet and high vibration gets into the point deeper and has a stronger effect)
- homeopathics (target specific organs to support detox, like the liver and kidneys. my naturopath gave me these)
- Bach flower essences (they treat emotions and work hand in hand with affirmations & positive thinking. they work similar to homeopathic medicines. you can get them at natural foods stores or from a naturopath or other certified bach flower practitioner)
- avoiding food/activities that make me sick or stretch my resources (check out the spoon theory- http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory-written-by-christine-miserandino/
- high dosages of zinc, vit A, & D (they are like the bullets/ammunition your immune system uses to fight off things. the zinc actually makes you not need deodorant anymore because you NEVER smell anymore! i think its amazing! according to my naturopath, zinc needs to be balanced with liquid ionic minerals so that you don't deplete your body of other minerals. my naturopath gave me all of these)
- methylated vitamins (they grab junk out of your bloodstream. my naturopath gave me these but I usually buy them from whole foods)
- When I am super nauseas, I force myself to follow a BRAT diet (with gf/cf bread). there is a BRAT drink for kids that I found at Vons that is super good too. it stabilizes me enough that i can make a smoothie or some comfort food.
- also, occasionally alternating daily with a strong astringent green tea and then water (i prefer alkaline water because it has smaller water molecule clumps that hydrates you faster) for a few days (and not too often). this creates a plunger effect in your system by pulling out junk and then flushing it out quickly. Going in the sauna or hot steam room and alternating with an ICE COLD shower a few times will do the same thing (you can simulate this at home with drinking some hot liquids, a space heater in the bathroom, a HOT bath, warm towels, sweat pants and sweaters, a hot water bottle, and lots of blankets in quick consecutive order.... then followed by a cold shower)
- Enema (I have not done this myself, but my herbology professor at school said this is one of the best ways to support a detox)
