A quick question. If Lyme can cause EBV infection to reactivate, would this cause a positive result on a monospot test? I've read where many people with lyme have also tested positive for EBV and mono. I still haven't been able to get a doctor to do a real lyme test (did the ELISA, came back equivocal) but it did show positive for mono, yet I was displaying the same symptoms I've had for 20+ years. Just curious.

bbcoach.... if you really are looking for someone to give you a lyme test I am thinking you live in the southwest because you brought up the valley fever thing. I have a list of doctors. you can email me. I think there is a link at the new to lyme section here.
It seems you are looking at all the same things many of us have looked at from EBV to Fibro To valley fever.

Any real lyme test will cost from $500 to $900 and that is just igenex. a complete picture depending on insurance can bbe another $5000 for the other 2 labs to get more of the picture on your condition . EBV and chlamidial pneumonia and all the other things.

do you have any insurance? are you really in south west? you can even call Igenex labs and they will give you doctors names.

I live in Montana, but was born in Southern California. Only resided in Cali. for a couple of years before moving here, so unlikely I contracted it there. I do have very good insurance, it's just getting a doctor to believe it could be lyme and to seriously pursue it. I've now seen 3 doctors (besides the countless over the past 20+ years for other symptoms) asking to be examined and tested for Lyme disease and they all insist there is none in Montana and it's long term Mono or chronic EBV. I just can't accept this. While many symptoms do fit EBV, I have many more that seem to fit Lyme. I also have other family members who suffer from many of the same symptoms who have been diagnosed with RA, Fibro, and Lupus. Of course all of us have been diagnosed (or labeled) with anxiet disorders as well, due to our frequent Dr. visits for various symptoms.

bbcoach, just order the lab kit from IGeneX, they send it to you, you take it to your doctor and you TELL THEM to do it. Don't back down. All they have to do is draw the blood and send it back to the stinking lab. I went to IGeneX to have the labs drawn, paid them the $720 something dollars (complete Lyme panel, no co-infections) sent in the receipt that has all the insurance info to my insurance company, and was reimbursed about 90% of the amount.

BTW, I have not heard of one Lyme positive patient that hasn't tested positive for EBV. I've read that a very large percentage of the normal "healthy" population, if tested, would probably test positive. You can get this virus and never know that you ever got it.

Just so you know, doctors in almost every state tell their patients Lyme disease does no exist in their state. I could say more but it's just too aggravating to even discuss it. It all boils down to ignorance, politics and $$$$.

Anyway, LupnerRN gave you the information you need. Hope you find a doctor to draw the blood for you. Like she said, "don't back down". Go to every doctor you need to go to until you find one that will do it.

Lisa, I haven't hunted here since I was young, although all my friends are avid hunters. Trust me, I get plenty of harrassment for living in Montana and not hunting. Some think I should have my Montana residency revoked and be thrown out of the state. I do get out and enjoy the outdoors though via hiking. 45 minutes from where I live is some of the most breath taking scenery in the U.S.
Gary, my frustration level with this whole thing is compounding daily. I am not looking for attention, just the opportunity to feel better. But they act like I'm a headcase or a nuisance. It doesn't make sense. All the physical evidence is there, so they can see I'm not making it up, so just keep evaluating me until you figure it out!! But it all ends the same way. 'It's in your head, go to counseling.' Or, now that I tested positive for EBV, it's 'there's really no treatment, just takes time'. I've been feeling like this for 20+ years! I think that's long enough. Wow, did I ever get on my soapbox. Sorry! I know most of you have been through it and know the routine. Just venting.

yep,,and also when you talk to Igenex ask them if there is kit for OLD lyme. Like something that is going to bring it into the blood if it is old and hiding.
my doctor gave me japaneese knotweed tincture and teasel root tincture to take for 7 days before getting blood work done. I got sick as a dog which was another tip off that I had lyme plus bartonella.

If you are up for a short trip I would recommend a doctor who is an expert in tick borne infections.

she did 26 tubes of blood between 3 labs to get the fulll picture. the most important part of this is the right diagnoses. for me it was worth the trip to Seattle. also you have to get checked for parasites. If you can get the metemetrex 2100 series stool test from a local naturopath. it costs about $395 but it was worth it.
