Heck! Maybe this will help some of the 'powers that be' understand just how widespread this really is!!!!

Now the Red Cross is checking the blood supply for Babesia.

That's such good news. I can't even count how many times I donated blood not knowing I had babesia :( im glad they are checking for it now

I'm fairly cynical as well, but the Red Cross has already admitted that Lyme Disease is an issue (especially chronic LD)- even though they haven't actually tested the blood supply for it. Here is their guidelines for those who know they have Lyme Disease:
" Lyme Disease
Accept persons with Lyme disease if they were treated, the disease resolved and at least 1 year has passed.
Those with chronic Lyme disease are not eligible to donate blood."

IMO~ I don't think we should ever give up hope that one day this insidious disease will be recognized for what it really is. Should that happen, "we" just might ease up on pushing awareness and decent treatment. We must continue to fight for these things and every little step leads to a larger step.

I find it humerous that the IDSA refuses to admit the existance of Chronic Lyme Disease, yet the blood banks are not allowing those of us with Chronic Lyme disease to donate blood. If this is not admmition of the existance of an illness....I don't know what is. I hate to compare this to HIV, but this was another terrible disease that was stone walled for years before the medical community, and government could not ignore any longer.
