I'm fairly cynical as well, but the Red Cross has already admitted that Lyme Disease
is an issue (especially chronic LD)- even though they haven't actually tested the blood supply for it. Here is their guidelines for those who know they have Lyme Disease:
" Lyme Disease
Accept persons with Lyme disease if they were treated, the disease resolved and at least 1 year has passed.
Those with chronic Lyme disease are not eligible to donate blood."
The actual list can be found here:
chapters.redcross.org/br/northernohio/INFO/eligibility.htmlIMO~ I don't think we should ever give up hope that one day this insidious disease will be recognized for what it really is. Should that happen, "we" just might ease up on pushing awareness and decent treatment. We
must continue to fight for these things and every little step leads to a larger step.
