Should I take Doxy?

I don't remember having a tick, and I don't have a rash..but have been achy and bone tired for a few weeks, they did bloods and the cut off for Lyme was 0.9, mine was 0.92..so they want to re-do the bloods, but said I may have Lyme..problem is, I've been having the symptoms for 2 weeks or so, and it will take a week to get results..I was given a course of doxy but usually get really sick taking antibiotics, and am allergic to most..so I'm not sure if it will be a problem for me..would you wait for the 2nd round of results if you were me..or just go ahead and take the doxy...uggggh. My husband got Lyme last month from being out in our yard..and there are always tics I am taking off my cats, so definatly tics around here

Sorry you have been feeling ill. It's no fun drained when there is so much to do!

We are not medical professionals here, but I think most of us would say that if you can treat Lyme Disease early, then you should. The longer you leave it, the harder it is to get rid of.

Some doctors use the antibiotics to diagnose Lyme, in a way. If you feel better and then worse and then even better, it is Lyme.

If you read the thread at the top of this forum, "New to Lyme?...Start here" you will see some great tips on how to detox while you are on antibiotics. It makes a big difference. Also don't forget to take lots of probiotics (more than the bottle recommends) and get them from a cold source. Most people have to stay out of the sun on doxy -- hard at this time of year!

So many people have a hard time getting treated for Lyme at all! This is great that your doctor is so responsive.

I think it's a personal choice you have to make, since you are allergic to abx. So sorry to hear that !! ....and that you might have Lyme.

But the risks associated with not treating Lyme immediately, can increase the longer you wait.

If you do decide to go ahead with the Doxy, make sure you take it with a full meal-- no dairy at all--and don't go out in the sun. You probably already know that :)

Amoxicillin is much easier to tolerate-- but the question remains: are you allergic to that too?

I'm not allergic to abx, so I don't know how serious the reaction is to them.

There are other things you can do, IF you choose to avoid abx. Other members who have gone the herbal/natural remedy route will surely offer their advice on that.

Hope your husband is feeling better....and that you will too !!!

But....if it were me....and knowing NOW how truly terrible Lyme disease is and wishing I had treated my infection way earlier than I did.....I would take the Doxy.

But that's just what I would do. I am NOT pushing abx on you.

Crap! well..I did try the doxy, and in a few hours I started having an itchy throat and had a hard time swallowing, had to run get some benadryl and the doctors office said to stop the antibiotics..now it is into the long weekend and I am on nothing. I don't even know what I can take as I can't take the cillins, or doxy, or sulfas. The 2nd blood test was rushed and came back at the end of the day that I had one panel that tested positive (low positive) and that they like to see 2 panels before they declare Lyme infection..she said it was up to me to treat it or not..wth does that mean? It is so vague..of course my first choice was to treat it if it was there at all, but now I'm not sure what to do, at any rate, won't be able to do anything else until after the weekend, so frustrating! Thanks for the replys, going off to study more!

Hey baerbaer,

Don't despair! I'm allergic to all that, too. There's still zithromax, clarithromycin, mepron, and many others. And of course, natural medicines.

In the meantime, try some detoxing techniques to help your body fight the infection.

It's a good weekend to get some rest, too!

I felt horrible on all oral antibiotics but after the initial herxing I felt much better on the IV PICC line

Suffering now for a finite period in early stages is better then the whole bag of tricks your get once it is established in you nervous system
