So my doc's current treatment plan is 4 weeks of doxycycline 100 mg twice a day. Anyone had any success with something like this? I am hoping for the best..

Hi VirginaGirl - I was recently diagnosed with Lyme's 2 weeks ago (though I had it last year as well, but caught it early enough to not suffer any of the symptoms very much). But I was bitten again this Spring/Summer and here I am. My Dr. also put me on Doxy 100 mg twice a day for a month. I'm 2 weeks into it and I think it might be too soon to know if it's enough of a dosage or not. The first few days of taking it were not fun. My symptoms either by coincidence got worse at that point, or the Doxy was indeed fighting things off inside of me. I had become quite light-headed and spaced out, had the pressure feeling behind my eyes, ears and temples. I generally wasn't feeling great at all. After about 5 days of taking the Doxy 100, I began to feel much better. But it's been up and down for me over the last week or so, but I had more days of feeling good over not feeling good. So I think I have to say that it seems to be working, but from what I've been reading in this forum and other websites, I'm wondering if I should really be taking the 400 mg's. I'll continue with what I was given until mid August when it runs out and and see where I am at that point and then talk things over with my Dr. I'm guessing that I'll likely switch to the Doxy 400 mg. Until then, I'm just eating lots of raw vegetables and drinking a lot of water with lemon and doing light exercises.

Just continue doing your research and take things slowly and listen to your body. You'll know if various things are working for you or not. Good luck & get well!!

Umm, that really isn't a strong enough dosage, IMHO.

It is very important to treat Lyme with a strong enough dosage and for a period after the symptoms have stopped.

Are you seeing a Lyme Literate Doctor?

Honestly I think I've had it for years. I've been ill for years, progressively getting worse. Newest awkward symptom is the heart murmur. Looks like I need an LLMD. Anyone know of one in VA that takes insurance?

It sounds to me like an LLMD is crucial at this time. If you have had for a number of years, you need aggressive combination of meds. Someone told me once that if you think you have had lyme for a few years, add at least 5 years to that. This forum will be give you a wealth of information. Research will be your best advocate. Dig deep and take it head on. You are worth it but it won't be easy. Think positive but question everything. It's hard to do when you are feeling cruddy but well worth it when you start to feel better.

You might want to start a separate thread entitled, "Looking for an LLMD in VA" to get responses from our membership.

Mostly LLMD's do not accept insurance as they would then be fettered by how they could treat their Lyme patients. You can submit your bills (cost of treatment and testing) to your insurance company for reimbursement.

You will want to find an ILADS(International Lyme And Associated Diseases Society) doctor. The ILADS site is a great place to read to get you started on your Lyme journey.

When a person THINKS they may have Lyme Disease it is extremely important to see a doctor who specializes in Lyme Disease and Co-infections right from the start.

A Lyme Literate doctor (LLMD or LLND) who treats patients with Lyme and Co on an ongoing basis, is your best bet to get proper diagnosis and treatment.

Time is of the essence whether you were just bit by a tick or suspect you've had Lyme Disease for a while...for your health's sake get an appointment asap.

find a tick borne specialist if you have to fly across country.

this doctor is doing STANDARD PROCEEDURE FROM 1980.

What he should be doing is calling one of the 2 best tick borne specialistl in the country for advice . or at least GOOGLING Buriscanno's protocol.

I can't believe how arrogant tees doctors are.

They get 300 lyme cases a year, actually recognize maybe 2 of them as being lyme and testing for it and then do the DEADLY UNDERDOSE.

I'm sure he graduated top of his class too.

Even if he is tall dark and handsome and you are madly in love with him...
find a tick borne specialist.

you are in a good position. don't let an inexperienced doctor put you in critical like so many others. It is doctors like this that have created the lyme disaster.
