Plaquenil ? I say no!

Saw my LLMD yesterday and told him that my remaining symptoms are really muscular at this point-- an intermitant aching in shoulders, arms and upper back....

.....along with a  'vibration'  feeling in my hands (24/7) which is a new symptom that started several weeks ago.

It's not a tingling sensation-- more like the feeling you would get if you were sanding wood with one of those hand-held, vibrating, sanding machines....and after you turned the thing off you could still feel the vibration. 

Anyone have this weirdo vibration sensation?  It's soooo annoying! 

At any rate, my doc thought I should try Plaquenil and see if it settled down these symptoms.  

But after reading about all of the (possible) side effects of Plaquenil-- along with the fact that it can take weeks to work and is not a cure but a band-aid, I have decided NOT to take it even though can work wonders. Apparently. 

Though the BAD side effects are very rare.... knowing me, my hair would fall out right away and I'd go blind in a week!  LOL 

Has anyone tried Plaquenil....or has had their LLMD prescribe it?

No, but I had that symptom develop and now subside with continued treatment.

My husband was all for me going to get meds like Plaquenil and Lyrica and the like. I felt that that was just going to muddy the waters. A) I wouldn't be able to tell if my symptoms had gone away and B) I wouldn't be able to tell what was side effects and what was symptoms.

Becareful some of these helpful band-aids are also immunosuppressants and you don't need that!

Yes !! I agree. Meds like this can certainly "muddy the waters".

Great that your symptom went away. I'm still on Ceftin....so I'm hopeful it will disappear for me too.

I also had that symptom resolve with treatment. Every now and then it will reappear but nothing like it used to be. It is really hard to tell sometimes if the meds are working or just covering up the symptoms. I take neurontin for peripheral neuropathy on my face and have tried to wean off of it cause it is just a "bandaid" but can't seem to manage the burning pain otherwise.

I'll chime in on this one too!!! I have had that vibration feeling not only in my hands, but every where else as well! rolleyes

I haven't had the opportunity to be able to say it has gone away yet....but I'm sure I will get there! smilewinkgrin

I feel right now that the Ceftin is NOT working very well.   I've only been back on it for three weeks but you'd think something should be resolving by now......

.......but nooooooo!   I was so near 100% when I had to stop taking it (to fix those pesky gut issues)  so the fact that nothing positive is happening, is very discouraging.

For sure I am way better than in the past-- no brain fog or memory problems or sweats/chills,  etc, etc..... but this 'burning muscle pain' and the vibrating makes me think I've really backslid!  sad  

My LLMD said to stay on the Ceftin for 4 more weeks (ugg!) and.... then we'll see. 

I'm just so tired of:   'Then we'll see.....'  

I've SEEN enough !!!  (LOL)    scool        ......and know what it's like to be SO CLOSE to 100%. 

When will THAT happen again?   I wonder....... 

Maybe a bandaid isn't such a bad idea after all.    idea     I could use a break!

IN my opinion, that what those "bandaides" are for!! To help ease things up on our bodies so that they can concentrate on healing and so that we don't go mad!!!

I took plaquenil for 2 years. I had no side effects at all. 6 months after being off of it, I had my eyes checked again(main concern of LLMD) and there is NO evidence of harm.

Was a good medication choice for me.
