Face pain from Lyme?

Hi, had two deer ticks a couple months ago. Got bad flu symptoms, so my dr put me on Doxy for 3 weeks. After I tested and came back negative. I know the Western blot isn't very accurate though. The last couple weeks I've been having a lot of face pain. It started real sharp at first on one side in cheek bone area, I guess. Now, it's on both sides, not sharp, but still pain that I can tolerate. Anyone have symptoms like this from Lyme? I have been really stressed lately, but I don't get headaches or pains like this generally, so I'm assuming it could be the Lyme.

Hi mtbiker,

It would be a good idea to get checked out by a Lyme Literate Doctor. Three weeks of doxy can be enough tor some cases, but not for others.

While you are looking for a doctor, keep a diary of the type and severity of your symptoms. Have a look at our "New to Lyme?..." thread for symptom lists to make sure you aren't missing other symptoms, putting them down to the regular aches and pains of everyday living.

And do try to reduce your stress as much as possible -- it is known to cause Lyme flares and relapses.

We are all different. It would be good to see a LLMD. Yes to the face pain. I had lyme 2 years ago, was treated with the standard dose of doxy. a year after treatment, the face pain started. I thought it was a major toothache. The dentist said my teeth were fine, but that my jaw was out of alignment. It never went away, just turned into an on again off again headache. This was the beginning of the baffling symptoms that eventually led us back to Lyme. Now being retreated. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Absolutely. Face pain baffled me for a long while. Cheek ached along with tight jaw and random teeth pain. PLEASE get to an LLMD before symptoms and the bacteria accelerate. Another couple months of antibiotics may make all the difference.

I have had face pain, especially in sinus areas, lower jaw and bas headaches, but they are saying I have Bartonella though I imagine it's the same for Lyme.

Yeah, I've had face pain. Mostly the eyes, but it can be all over, including cheek and jaw. Don't know if it's related or not, but the fillings on one side of my mouth have hurt for so long I'm getting them replaced. (And it's unlikely they would all go bad at once, so I'm sure the bugs are somehow responsible.)

i have a lot of face pain on the right side of my head- it affects my right eye, causes tingling in my right temple, head pain, and causes a general pressure pushing out from the cheekbone! definitely one of the more prominent of my symptoms. however, i havent been tested for co-infections so im not sure if lymes or a co-infection is the most likely cause?

Thanks everyone, I wanted to take one more western blot test or see if my primary would give me more Doxy perhaps, but he hasn't returned my call yet. Money's tight, so worried I can't go to a LLMD yet, cause I can't find any that take my insurance. I'm getting tired of this face pain, though. I will keep you updated.
