Make sure you read up on taking Flagyl, LymieAngel. At least use the search function here and see what others have gone through and what they did while taking Flagyl!
And congrats!! I hope that this abx works well for you!

I've heard flagyl can be rough for some people, but I've also heard it's really helpful. I'm on tindamax right now for my cyst buster (never taken flagyl), but it's similar in structure and has been really helpful for me as well! Good luck! And take care of that digestive system!!!

When I started Flagyl it gave me a terrible, nagging headache that lasted for three days. After that passed it was smooth sailing.

From what I understand, the Flagyl itself is not bad - but it has superior and efficient ability to kill Lyme and other critters. So, the people that feel bad after starting Flagyl are usually just killing off critters too fast for their body's to keep up. This happened to me - I was on Flagyl twice for 5 days each time and really felt bad. BUT, I had/have a high Lyme pathogen load due to many years not being treated. I am approaching it more slowly next time - right now, for the cyst busting, I am using grapefruit seed extract (GSE) - (note the difference from GRAPE seed extract).

OH please don't dread it, LymieAngel!! Just know what you are possibly facing and prepare for it! Our mind set when we use these different things actually
does
make a difference! If you go into it dreading it, then the probability of you have a bit harder of a time with it increases as well -simply because you are dreading it!
As I suggested above, use our search function here and read up on how other dealt with being on Flagyl so that you know what kinds of things work in different situations!
Who knows? You might not have hardly any issues while on that abx!

I had been prescribed Flagyl too, but only 14 days worth. So I am stretching it, taking it for only 3 days at a time, then staying on just Ceftin for a while. It did not make me feel much worse then Ceftin alone.
Actually so far I felt the worst on Zithro (bad brain fog, fatigue, balance problems). Don't know if it's good or bad - was it herxing or just a bad reaction to antibiotics?

Hi Apple!
The symptoms that you mentioned are definitely TBI symptoms, so if they are too severe, I would assume that it was a herx - which means you should increase your detoxing.

OH Lordy!! I messed up!!
It should have read that if they
aren't
too severe, then I would assume that it was a herx!!!
So sorry, Apple!!

@Traveler - what is TBI? google says Traumatic Brain Injury, but I'm not sure that applies in this context.
@LymieAngel - I don't know yet if what I have is Lyme or something similar, but metro(nidazole - Flagyl) is effective for me - but it does give me herx-like symptoms. But right now, any antibiotics I take give me herx-like symptoms :)

I have actually seen TWO LLMDs and am deciding which one to stick with as there is a conflict in trreatment options.... One doc recommends Flagyl at 500 mg/2x day for two WEEKs at a time and alternate with Biaxin. The other says that she never has her patients take Flagyl more than 2 days at a time....again, we see differing opinions and such. But, it appears that Flagyl is effective even with out maintain a constant blood serum level for a long period of time. I guess it's up to each of us to figure out what that time frame is!

@ Sickman
TBI = Tick Borne Infection
If you have a look at our "New to Lyme?" thread at the top of the forum, there is a whole section on frequently used abbreviations used on the forum. It will help you get up to speed. We don't mean to be mysterious!
There is a lot more in that thread that proves useful to most Lyme patients.

I've been under treatment for 10 months now and my LLMD told me that at some point we will have to use Flagyl. I can't wait to use it because I want to just get rid of this lyme once and for all!!!! I'll deal with the herx....that would be a good sign that it's working!
I see my LLMD next week. Can't wait to see the results of my last round of blood work. I'm feeling a little guilty though...I haven't been very good at my detoxing (my sauna, etc). plus I've been eating/drinking things that I shouldn't with the holidays, etc.... I REALLY need to get back into the swing of things!!!

Yeah, Yazzer, and doesn't it s*ck that we have to decide such things?!?!?! It shows how desperately we need more funding so that more research can be done in the treatment area of TBI's!!! Alas, we have only just begun though!
So sorry Sickman!!

Amen, Trav! There are as many different treatment strategies as there are LLMDs and to make matters worse, as there are Lyme sufferers! If I were to revert to my Stochastic and Probability clsses back in college, I'd say there are a LOT of permutations that need investigating!

@sickman,,LOLOLOL.....i love that little saying u have at the bottom of all your posts thanks for the laugh........as for the other replys....i am not dreading so much the actual herx..even though i would prefer NOT TO HERX sheesh i have been in a herx since the first week of october.....but i think its more the fact that no matter how much detoxing...no matter how much sugar and gluten free i become...im nauseated...and that flagyl i think tastes worse than pickled pig toenails and it makes me gag and i have to pray that my meds and all that food i just ate stays down.....i absolutely cant take the taste.....i have called my pharmacist and left message to call me back and im going to see if they can put my flagyl in capsule form...i dont care if i have to pay extra....lol....cause this aint cuttin it....i gagged jus looking at the bottle....
