Hi folks, my doc started treating me for babesia about a month ago.. He put me on Mepron twice daily.. I keep reading that it is normally treated with another antibiotic. However I am only taking the mepron and Doxy for my Lyme.. Can the doxy be used for this? Or am I missing the boat?

When my LLMD was treating me for Babesia I was on Mepron by itself. He went after the Lyme after the Babesia was under control.

Each doctor's approach is different. I think you can be confident that your doctor has a good plan in mind.

Can you tell me more about your Babesia treatment? How long were you on mepron? What were your symptoms? How long before you feeling better? Thanks, Kevin

Why not ask your LLMD why s/he chose to only use Mepron? S/he is the only one that can really explain the reasoning and there could be more to his/her plan that they just didn't explain.

Just a thought.

Traveler, I plan on talking to him during my next appointment, in the mean time I wanted to know the experiences of others.. Just because someone has the title Md or even LLMD doesn't mean I'm going to take everything they say as gospel. Knowledge is Power

I'm afraid I can't be much help, my memory of my treatment is really sketchy. I wish I had kept notes!

Also, my treatment would have been different than yours as I had Ehrlichia as well. And my abx choices were limited because I have allergies to a couple of the abx families.

I was diagnosed clinically for babesia and CDC/Igenex for Lyme. My co-infection tests came back negative.

I was taking Mepron 1 tsp, twice per day and clindamycin. He said he was going after the babesia first before starting on the Lyme.

I have a ton of symptoms that are still trying to be sorted out into either Lyme, Babesia or possibly another co-infection. I've been making tables and charts to make it easier.

I don't see anything unusual with that. I was on Doxy and Mepron for awhile. (i have lyme and babesia also). Eventually he had to take me off the mepron because the side effects were too rought and was killing my stomach

Traditionally you take Mepron or Malerone with the antibiotic Azithromyacin. My doctor (considered one of the top 2 Lyme doctors in the world) says that this is essential.
