Saw LLMD yesterday...new drugs..need opinions

I saw my LLMD yesterday because I was having problems with the Flagyl.  He agreed that maybe I should not take it and then prescribed me two new drugs:  Omincef and Ketek.  I'm panicking though because he mentioned that Ketek has a bad reputation regarding liver issues.  Anyway, I mentioned to him that my liver enzymes were already elevated and he said "oh..."  He looked at my last bloodwork and said, they aren't that bad...

I looked up this drug on the internet (of course) and am really worried about some of the potential for this drug to cause some serious liver problems.  I was worried about the flagyl because it can cause permanent neuropathies and now this....  Is there anything that is safe??

I'm feeling very discouraged.  This doctor is one of the top lyme doctors in the country but I just do not trust him.  He prescribed me thyroid meds on my second appt with him.  I got meds and happened to have an appointment with my very trusted internist who said "you do NOT need those".  I didn't take them and then told my LLMD about that and he said he doesn't know why he would have prescribed me those meds!!!  I'm sure you can understand my hesitation!

I am going to call my internist to get his opinion of this Ketek drug before I start it and make an appt with a new LLMD.....

I would appreciate any feedback that any of you have heard or experienced with Ketek.

Does your LLMD have lyme also?.....i have noticed my doc's oddities and saying she had "done" something when she didnt ..or vice versa...she has lyme...and sometimes i finish her sentence for her....and she has ocd tendacies..always messing with her glasses when they hadnt moved from the last 20 times she had moved them....alot of docs are now llmds because they either have it...or a close loved one ...i trust my llmd....but i have to be at my best when trying to follow her and i will question her if i dont "get something"...every new med...i will ask..."what is this med for?"....she does make me irritated...but two lymies trying to talk to each other..is like ummmm...either wonderful or the worst thing that could ve happened...lol...and with all that being said ...i dont know what was my point other than..does ur doc have lyme...*im laffN*...sorry...went off on a tangit

It doesn't matter where his ranking is - if he's prescribing meds and then later saying stuff like 'why did I do that?', you don't need even more uncertainty in your life right now! I would say it's time for you to look into getting a new LLMD! I personally think that it's a must to be able to have trust in your doc! The new LLMD could pick up right where your old one left off easily enough.

I also don't think it's a good idea to use a doc who is still treating their own Lyme or other tick-borne infections! Look at the mistakes and issues we have!! smhair I sure don't want a doc that can't operate any better than I do!

I have a call into my internist regarding these new meds to make sure they are safe for me and my liver.

My LLMD is not a previous lyme patient. I would not feel comfortable (and I know I'm not supposed to) putting his name out there but I will say that he is very well known in the lyme community. I personally have a trust issues with doctors after some bad experiences, so I second guess EVERYTHING anymore. I used to be so trusting and do whatever told without doing any research into anything and now, I'm completely the opposite. I research EVERY drug I take because of the potential permanent side effects and if the risk is greater than the benefit, then I will look into the next thing.

This doctor has helped thousands of people and people love him, so it may just be me and my paranoia, but I may have to go with my gut instinct on this. I've left a message with my internist's nurse and will wait until I hear from him before I start these new meds.

You are lucky to have an internist you trust. I am searching for one myself. Good for you to have the energy to research what is going into your body. We are after all our best advocate. Perhaps if you need this drug you could have your blood tested more often to allay your fears. My LLMD is also very well known in NY, but he has only tested my liver once in the 5 months I have been seeing him, I would like it tested more often for peace of mind, but am not sure how often others get blood tests done.

I am not a big fan of Ketek. I took it for about three months nearly two years ago but had to discontinue due to elevated liver enzymes. I've been on many different abx since getting sick with lyme etc, but this was the only one that had that effect. It just wasn't worth the risk to me
and it can be very dangerous to people with any preexisting liver conditions
