Sudden numbness is worrying me

So I posted a few days ago that my toes were numb and not moving correctly. They have not improved. Now my left hand is the same. I thought it was a temporary thing, but it's been about a week now. It's very weak, tingling, trembling/twitching internally and I have severely impaired movement and sensation in it. It's kind of scaring me as I don't want it to be permanent or to continue getting worse.

I'm 4 weeks into the medications (biaxin and mepron). I did not have this type of severe numbness/weakness before I started taking the meds. Although I did have some sluggishness in my hands which was unusual. I don't think I'm having a herx because I've felt the same way (pretty poorly) since I started the meds weeks ago.

Is this a typical symptom of Lyme? Is it considered neurological? Do you think it's due to the meds not working and Lyme progressing? Is there anything I can do to stop it from getting worse?

I would definitely contact your dr but don't stop without his saying so. Many symptoms definitely get worse with meds before getting better. After all now your body is not only fighting a disease but dealing with a foreign substance in it.

Have you ask your dr. about taking magnesium? It helped me greatly with muscle weakness and twitching. My husband and I both had numbness in hands and feet but they have subsided totally with treatment.

Make sure you get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. Hope you feel better.

I definitely agree that you should talk to your doctor about this, at the very least being stressed/worried about these symptoms isn't going to help matters any, and if it is a side effect of the medication - although it doesn't sound like it - it's best to know and go from there.

Since starting treatment, I've noticed an increase in neurological symptoms - if that's what you'd call them. Just today my entire back was twitching for hours. My left arm goes numb and weak all the time, still, which is definitely one of my Lyme symptoms.

I wish I could tell you for certain what's going on - all I can tell you is that my worst symptoms when I started treatment were a lot like what you're experiencing now - and it terrified me all day, every day, for quite a while, but it did get much, much better.

If I'm remembering correctly, I didn't have much twitching before treatment, except for my eyes when I was very tired. That was one of the first "herx" symptoms I ever experienced - for a while it was so bad that people actually noticed (slightly embarassing!).

The twitching went away for quite a while, but I recently started Plaquenil, and also started exercising much, much more, which has left me feeling like I'm definitely hitting this thing much harder - so now all the herx symptoms are back in full swing, which includes twitching.

I stayed with that same treatment for about 6 months - I've recently changed it up a bit. I was on Doxy and Tindamax at the time. I honestly think it's "just" a matter of needing to detox more/more efficiently. Sometimes I think I bring this up too much, but I think it's an option that's good to at least know about - toxin-binding products can be really helpful, especially in individuals who have trouble eliminating toxins on their own.
