Finding a tick on you DURING treatment.

Well it's still winter and I already had a tick on me. It wasn't attached when I found it. It was walking down my leg although it was slightly inflated.

I just started treatment within the last 2 months so is it even worth mentioning it to the LLMD? I will likely be getting ticks on me all the time. I have never gone a year without at least 5 attached ticks. I literally walked from my house to my car and that was it for today which makes me a little worried about how long the tick was on me or if it was just leaving after a "feed."

What do you generally do if you DO find an attached tick while you're in treatment? Other than remove it right away.

Yeah, I know this is one of many that will likely occur this year. It's kind of frustrating to go through treatment knowing I'm probably going to be bitten again several times every year. I take all the precautions, but we are overrun with ticks.

I'm in the northern part of the Northeast and we have had pretty much no snow this year. The ticks are already out and I don't think they ever even needed to go underground yet.

I have no idea. I hike a lot, and I have pets. Maybe the pets are attracting them. I am outside for about 80-90% of the day when I work. Ten years or so ago, I never remember finding any. Now I can't even go outside for 5 minutes without having one on me. I think the population is drastically increasing.

Sometimes I come out of the woods or inside from going for a walk on the road and I find 6 or 7 all over my clothes. It's disgusting. They are also all over the woodpile for the fireplace and the grass.

Last year I remember putting a blanket out for a young child to sit on in the grass of another home in town (a short manicured lawn). When we went inside and I picked up the blanket, there were about 10 ticks crawling all over it.

If there are that many in your yard I bet the pets are bringing them inside often.. As lymie angel said I would have your yard treated.. I have started spraying all my outdoor clothes with Permethrin(it kills ticks on contact). Its funny I lived in Upstate Ny for 40 years and never had a tick bite, but in Pa its a yearly thing.. I just remembered something you might want to know.. The number one carrier of lyme is not deer, its mice. If you have a large woodpile there are probably mice living in it and as you said you know the ticks are there.

We are also already seeing ticks attached to our dogs. With the calmer weather most of us have been having - please remember that the ticks are out everywhere already!!

One thing you can do is to treat your yard - I have for the past three years and have had relatively few ticks in my yard even though my area is being over-run with those nasty little critters!

I use Ortho's "Bug-B-Gon" I think it's says "max" on there as well. I buy the granules, but there is a spray as well. It's not very expensive and two bags will treat all around my house and my shop/barn. I will be using this again this year.

There is also a product out called permethrin that can be sprayed on your clothing that is supposed to last through 6 washes. If you choose to use this product, be careful to not get it on your skin as it causes nerve issues and our nerves are already under attack by the Lyme Disease. I will be getting this to use for the first time this year.
