Hi, I am currently taking Biaxin 500mg 2x a day for lyme. Has anyone else noticed any irregular heart beats with this? Sometimes I notice my heart is beating pretty fast when I'm sitting down or with moderate exercise, and I get palpitations as well sometimes. Is this safe to keep taking?

Well, more than likely, the heart palpitations are caused by the Lyme being treated and not the Biaxin but check with your doc to be sure....Lyme hides out in the heart tissue sometimes and the Biaxin could be whacking it, thus the palps - they are USUALLY not dangerous but, I am not a doc....

Unfortunately I can't get a hold of my dr or the pharmacy, they are closed until Tuesday. I think I'm going to stop it, as im experiencing the worst chest pain I've felt, it doesn't feel normal.

Well, pain is different than palpitations. I would maybe stop as well if you cannot see a doc till Tuesday. How long have you been on the biaxin? It's weird it is causing problems as my experience with it is that it is a rather mild abx as abx go.

I forgot to mention chest pain in my original post. I have palpitations and severe chest pain. I've only been on it for a week. The only other symptoms I've experienced is stomach cramps and nausea, since for me its been hard on my stomach even with full meals.

You may want to go to the ER and get the chest pains checked out.
Nothing to play around with.

I had rapid & pounding heart on Biaxin. In retrospect, it was possibly caused by systemic candida (that was aggravated by taking antibiotics). I had also had a severe iron deficiency.
Whenever I had heart issues, my LLMD had me stop the meds for 4-5 days, then re-start on a low dose and build. When yeast was spotted on my tongue, he stopped all antibiotics and I took Fluconazole daily for 6 weeks. Now just re-starting the Biaxin, am building and so far it is going ok.
If you have chest pains, I would definitely stop the Biaxin. My LLMD was very clear to me about
heart symptoms are nothing to mess about
with and sometimes too much is too much. Even now, re-starting the Biaxin and pulsing with Flagyl & Riamet, I was given strict orders to stop all meds if my heart acts up.
My instinct says to stop taking the Biaxin, and if you do not improve rapidly and chest pains continue, go to an ER.

I would agree with Scandic on this one!! Lyme , Babesia and Bartonella can cause some pretty serious heart issues!! If your chest pains or your heart palps get bad, please go to the emergency room!!! Don't wait!

I would get this checked out. You always want to err on the side of caution!
When I started Biaxin I got something that felt like heart palpitations AND chest pain, but it was acid reflux, which caused the chest pain and gave me esophogeal spams, which felt like heart palpitations.
But if you go to a doctor they will tell you for sure!
