Doxycyline Hyclate..any experience? Treating Lyme & Candida, Please help. I have some ?'s

I read your post the other day and I was skeptical of the dose as well. That seems like a very low dose to me, and it's also unusual for a LLMD to prescribe doxy alone unless it's for an acute and very recent case of Lyme. I took that dose of Doxy from a regular family doctor (not a LLMD) for 4 weeks. I felt okay for the 2nd week and then by week 3 all my symptoms returned and got worse for the next several months in which I had no treatment.

I also have candida, and my LLMD had me stop antibiotics for a while to use Nystatin. The Nystatin didn't eliminate it, but it lowered it enough that it wasn't causing severe issues so I could resume antibiotics. As far as I know, probiotics can help keep Candida at bay and help prevent it, but I do not believe they can cure or eliminate it. I'm fairly sure that doxy does not work for Candida.

As for the diet, perhaps the LLMD doesn't want you to limit calories any further at the risk of causing more health problems? I lost a lot of weight yet am still in the normal weight range for my height. My LLMD likes to change lifestyle/diets frequently to improve health, but it was never suggested to me to cut back on anything. In fact, I was told not to restrict as much as I had been.

I think if I were in your situation, I would question him about the candida diet, the dosage of doxy, his expected outcome from this treatment, and when the cystic form and any co-infections will be addressed. See what he says and if he's able to explain his treatment choices and future plans for your treatment.

i think you are very right in wanting to get this candida yeast under control otherwise it will severely compromise your immune system whcih is already beaten down with lyme

i am sorry, not trying to be negative but many of these LLmds have absolutely no understanding of health and how the body works and should work and what to do to support health and wellness (ie dealing with this candida) as opposed to killing disease

i mean what he gave you as a candida diet is like a bad movie...

i do believe the initial best remedy against yeast is developing a good bacteria level; To me that seems to be the best defense as opposed to finding and using 12 different products to KILL yeast..If you put the body in a position to heal, it will do the best it can and then you need to complement with Killing protocols (diflucan) or herbs. A lot of natural products such as grapefruit seed extract (GSE) and Oil of oregano (OoO) Kill good and bad bacteria, so if you are already in an imbalanced bacteria state, this just makes it worse imo.

I have heard that Lyme can come back if it is not adequately treated in a timely manner. Once Lyme reaches late stage/chronic, it becomes more difficult to treat and often relapses. Do you know how long you had Lyme before you were treated and what treatment you received?

I was diagnosed by a LLMD (a lyme-literate doctor) who looked at clinical symptoms and ran a Western Blot through Igenex labs. The most important step to finding out if you have Lyme and treating it is a LLMD. Most regular doctors do not have the adequate training to be able to work with the complexities of testing and symptoms.

Another important aspect of Lyme that I was very interested in when I first started out was the two standards of treatment for those with Lyme and some of the controversy surrounding IDSA vs. ILADS guidelines. Learning about the two standards really helped me to realize the importance of finding a true LLMD and not just an infectious disease doctor or a family doctor.

The IDSA sees Lyme as an easily treated infection and they tend to use a standard that is not individualized to each patient. This lack of individualization begins with their standard for testing which is extremely stringent and is based on the CDC reporting (not diagnosing) criteria. Testing through the method outlined by the IDSA guideline misses a very large percentage of those with Lyme.

The IDSA also tends to use a one size fits all approach to treatment. For example, if patients don't respond to a short course of antibiotics as outlined by the IDSA, they are said to have incurable post-lyme syndrome and are treated symptomatically (often with steroids which are severely harmful for those with Lyme) or with nothing at all while their disease progresses.

ILADS believes that each patient should be treated based on their individual response to treatment with different approaches that may include longer courses of antibiotics, herbs and supplements among others. Their is a ton of current research that supports the guidelines of ILADS that the IDSA refuses to acknowledge.

Most general MD's do not have the time needed to research every condition in depth. Therefore, they tend to follow the basic and easy-to-implement outline of the IDSA. A LLMD will follow the ILADS guideline.

I know that a lot of signs of Fibro and Lyme are similar, so it may be useful for you to consult with a LLMD to rule out Lyme if you have any concern about it.

...many people think Fibro and CFS and all of these auto immune Lupus and neurodegenerative diseases are ALL separate diseases.

Many scientist and research doctors are saying they are the SAME disease and they are ALL caused by the same pathogen infections.

Lymes, mycoplasmas and virals.

These scientist and research doctors cost the pharmecuetical companies money if they find cures. We all know, pharma co's are not the only entities that "profit" from no cures.

These scientists and research docs I personally believe say these "new 30 - 40 year old epidemic diseases" are called different names only because the "mainstream" is not being taught there is a primary pathogen cause that is the SAME for all of the different disease names.

As well, the pathogens "hit" through one individual causing nerve pain so it's called Fibro. The same pathogen doesn't cause nerve pain on a different individual so it's called CFS.

The same pathogen hits an individual in the brain more so they get the shakes and they call it Parkinsons or MS, if they don't get the shakes but memory problems from the SAME pathogens it's called Alzheimers.

If you look in the "esteemed" Annals of Rheumatic Diseases the Euljar Journals, you'll see how many many abstracts show Mycoplasma Fermantans in sinovial fluid of arthritis patients. Knuckles in hands, knees, and more, they treat with ABX, no more arthritis.

Mycoplasmas in bone marrow of a high % of Leukumia patients. Look it up in respected medical abstracts and journals. It's there in black and white.

Are people being told this? No.

He has spent his life, and decades studying this and helping people with his research.

I sent my blood to a lab in the US, and was positive for mycos. Symptoms of what they now call "Sjogrens'" with no cure. And it's just like his site said, a pathogen causing the auto immune and cognitive problems and insomnia. It's in his link saying people are told Lupus, Fibro, Sjogrens etc., and it's lymes, mycoplasmas and more.

Gulf War Vets get the SAME pathogens it shows on this site. But mainstream doesn't ALLOW it to get published. 2 t 2 = 4. Same symptoms, same disease, same pathogens.

WE the public go on a wild goose chase because of it.

I just find this all very interesting AND more than a little disturbing when there's research not being given to the masses and the masses are being told, nothing's curable and you'll need these drugs to function until the disease takes you out.

.........then to find out, that's not entirely true.

I was only on abx for like 4 weeks. I just never got better after stopping. It doesn't have anything to do with the abx
. Maybe I would have gotten better if the general family dr had treated me properly. Cest la vie. Very unfair.

I second taking Diflican for a week or two before starting any ABX. Its stronger than Nystatin which mostly stays in the gut. Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar is also said to help with candida.

Also look at taking the best quality multi-strain probiotic you can afford. Acidiphlolous is just a single strain and generally is sold in a low strength. Some folks say you should take 50 to 100 billion cultures per day. Over the counter Theralac or VSL#3 are top of the list, but pricey. If you can get a script for VSL# DS and have a good co-pay it may be the best solution, and you could probably get away with 1/2 packet a day to stretch out to a 60 day supply. Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar is also said to help with candida.
