Finding Lyme Dr in CT/IV versus oral antibiotics

I recently found this forum and have learned quite a few things already from reading other posts.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a Lyme dr in Connecticut. I am seeing one now who was recommended to me but I would like a 2nd opinion. I know it can a long time to get better (I went diagnosed 7 months because my dr at the time wouldn't test me!!!)but I have had no improvements after being on Doxy since Jan 3rd. I know alot of people who didn't get better until they were on IV antibiotics but this dr doesn't believe in IV. She said it's not how the antibiotics is administered, but how long you take it. I am currently on Doxy and the fatigue and body aches are ruining my life. I have a 15 month baby who is consuming what little energy I do have and have not had much luck trying to see a therapist and learning mediation.
Can anyone recommend a dr and does anyone have opinions on IV versus oral antibiotics. I know we are all different but can it really take months to feel even a little better?

Hi shebalasvegas,

I am from Connecticut, but visit a LLMD in New York. Email me and I can recommend 2 LLMD's in New York and 1 in Connecticut.

FYI - I did 30 days IV-Rocephin, 12 months of oral antibiotics and 8 months of IVIG therapy for severe neuro symptoms.

The good news is: I feel much better now and no longer require any treatments.

Hi Lisa,

I began to notice some improvements after the first 18 months. I had stopped all antibiotics and was doing ivig therapy only and noticed gradual improvements with each passing month. I am still not 100%, but i am hoping to continue improving as i try to return to a more normal life.

Hi shebalasvegas - welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear of what you're going through - it's so frustrating that so many of us have to go undiagnosed for so long!

I would definitely encourage you to find a LLMD - a doctor who is specifically trained in treating lyme disease in all of its complexity. Doxy will only treat one form of the disease, while most lyme doctors will usually address the cystic form and biofilms as well. Unfortunately there's no one size fits all treatment, and it often comes down to a personal decision. If you want to try for IV, by all means, that is your right as a patient! It's not uncommon for lyme patients to have to try out a few doctors before finding one that's the right fit!

I'd also encourage you to look at the "new to lyme" thread if you haven't already - there's a lot of great information there that might help you along your path to recovery, including ideas for detoxing, which is really crucial during treatment.
