Hello all

LLMd starting me on Mepron in addition to my Ceftin. I have read a lot about reactions to this drug and am nervous to start it. Has anyone had good results with Mepron? LLMD starting it due to continued hand and feet numbness, fatigue and blurred vision

Hi,

I took Mepron and Ceftin together in the past and remember not feeling very well on that combination. The tasty yellow liquid (Mepron) $1500 per bottle i believe. I survived it and believe that it is a very strong anti-malaria med. I too had numbness in all of my body. I am much better now...

I was on Mepron for some portion of my treatment. It was very helpful to me.

Yes it is nasty -- it's hard not to say "Gleeckk!" when you take it! You are supposed to take it with some sort of fat for maximum absorption. I would reward myself with some Nutella for being so brave!

Sounds like you are in very good hands with the doctor of yours.

Thank you for your replies. I think my pharmacy flavored it as it smells like bubble gum!

Achievinggrace, I took your advice and took it with a spoon of nutella - very yummy!

I have only taken two doses and now know from previous experience that if I am going to have a herx from a med, it takes a while. Am just praying that I tolerate this combo well and get rid of these neuro symptoms.

And, yes, I am blessed to have a wonderfull LLMD with a great, supportive staff

What exactly is the Melton for?
Lyme?
Coinfections ?

Hi, I took Mepron for several months. My dr. told me to take it with a spoonful of "orange marmalade". (I never did, b/c I don't like that). I believe the Mepron works better when taken in conjunction with some food; never thought of Nutella. That would be better than taking it straight.
Make sure you are measuring your dosage carefully, at least at first, so that you don't take too much. Most kitchen spoons hold more than a "teaspoon".

It took some getting used to; it had sort of a laxative effect at first. I have taken a couple of other things that actually taste worse than Mepron, ha! I'll bet that the combo of bubblegum and Nutella, it will not be too doggone awful.

I took Mepron with cleocin for 2 months trying to target babesia. The first week I was wiped out then the 3-8 I felt pretty bad the whole time. I didn't have any really bad herxing except a little bit of trancing while I was driving or when I was looking at lights. The exhaustion I had was the same whether on or off.

I never had any nausea or GI stuff with it. I took it with fat either sugar free coconut milk ice cream, almond butter or a larabar. Make sure you check your liver while on this. I didn't expect any problems so I went almost 2 months without a liver function test. We were just about to double the dose and I had my liver checked as a precaution. My ALT, AST and bilirubin were way too high. I've been having problems with that ever since. Even while being off Mepron.

Ok, have been on the mepron for a week. Blurry vision has improved, so has tingling in hands. Made the mistake today of telling a friend how much better I was and now tonight seem to be starting a herx! Muscle pain, horrible fatigue, lightheaded and anxiety. Herxes I have had in the past have lasted several weeks and I just don't know if I can do this again :(
Do I stay on the mepron and deal with the increased symptoms?
After being treated for the last 5 months, I am truly wondering if I will ever get better....,

I have been taking Mepron for several month now.  I take it a teaspoon daily for 3 weeks, then off a week.

When I am off the Mepron for a week, I know it. 

I feel way better taking the Mepron, mine also tastes like bubble gum. Don't take my Mepron away.
