I was officially dx'ed with Celiac back at the beginning of March. Before the Celiac issues started (Sept 2011) my lyme treatment had been going really really well. I even went a whopping 3 months without a lyme flare-up. Ever since the tummy trubs, though, everything began to backslide. The first few weeks of being 100% GF I started feeling better off and on but every slip-up/glutening would result in terrible week long pains (crippling exhaustion, severe bloating, cramping, diarrhea, then constipation, then severe muscle aches) (such a steep learning curve with this disease!)
I felt semi decent in the weeks leading up to vacation to Costa Rica at the very end of March. I did well most the trip until the last night. I felt AWFUL. Nausea, body aches, bloating etc, so I just assumed I got glutened and expected to be in agonizing pain for the next week then it would pass. Well. It's been almost 3 months now and that agonizing pain hasn't lifted. I'm only eating whole foods and have checked/re-checked all supplements etc so I KNOW I'm not glutening myself over and over. Is it possible that I'm still in such horrible pain because my intestines are still healing? I've read that it can take some people up to a year to feel better after going completely gluten free, but I'm also a tad worried that I could have contracted something else while in Costa Rica. (I am an idiot and didn't get immunizations.) (YEAH. I KNOW. Great idea! Lets go to a 3rd world country with a compromised immunity without getting immunizations!) (I believe this is called "natural selection")
This whole time I've been waving it off as MEH, this is pretty par for the course with healing Celiac but I'll be better once my intestines start healing. I just wanted to see if any other Celiac/Lymies had a similar struggle post Celiac diagnosis.
I am heading to my regular doc next week to run some tests just to be on the safe side. (Some symptoms don't seem related to Celiac or Lyme--I suddenly have no desire to eat. :/)
My god, if I got ANOTHER bacteria in CR I think I'm just going to live in a bubble.
