Cowen B. Buhner?

I did a decent amount of background information a couple months back when I was looking to switch from antibiotics to a more natural protocol. I was between the Zhang, Cowden, and Buhner protocol, which all have a bit of overlap so I found that pretty comforting. IMO, the perks to Cowden's protocol is that they are a bit more well-researched, and there's a lot less work involved for the patient, in the sense that it's set up for each month. The drawback for me was the expense and the fact that I tend to be very sensitive to anything I put in my body, so I didn't feel I'd be able to stick to the monthly plans very well.

I ended up choosing Buhner's protocol, mostly because it resonated with me - simple as that. I really like the ideas behind herbalism, and a huge part of why I think it's been helping is that it's helping me reconnect with nature. Down side would be that if you're doing it on your own, it can be a bit challenging. At this point in my life I feel I'm capable of handling the control and responsibility of self-treatment, though it still gets a bit scary and there are days when I really feel in over my head (I do have a decent scientific background so that helps a lot!). It's still adding up to a bit more than I'd expected (I pay about the same for supplements that I did through my doctor, but more for herbs than I did for abx as my insurance is really good and pharmaceuticals are free for me).

If you go with either, I really think it helps to have some sort of practitioner to help you out, though. Hope I've helped somewhat!

Yeah, the pills can definitely be a challenge! Between the pills, tinctures, and powders, a day when I manage to take every single thing on my list is a really exciting day! I'm about to switch over to powdered herbs (just mixing them in with water or juice) so that should be pretty interesting!
