Hi everyone! I just started Lariam today after being on Mepron for a few months. I'm also taking Artemesinin. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has taken this and had anything to share. I know that there are a lot of scary stories about it but my doctor assured me that none of her patients have ever gone psychotic. Regardless, i've warned my family to keep an eye on me.

Anyone have any success/side effects with this drug?

Hi.  I was on artemisinin with mepron and azithromyicin and liver enzymes went up.  Has taken awhile to come down but back on mepron and azithromyicin again.  No artemisinin.  Was told artemisinin is good to treat babesia but I was not able to take.  Do not know about lariam.  Hope this helps.

I have a lot of experience with the Artemesinin and Mepron so my question is really about Lariam.

Hi!

I haven't taken Lariam myself but a classmate of mine was on it as an anti-malarial while we were studying abroad for two months. She had intense nightmares and hallucinations. (Usually she thought she was seeing people that weren't there.) It was certainly disturbing but not as scary as some of the Lariam stories you hear about and it didn't significantly disrupt her ability to study, etc. I had much better luck on Malarone but I'm not sure if that's an option for TBI treatment.

My doctor told me the dose used for malaria is much higher and it's quinine poisoning that causes all the bad side effects. I don't know how much you are on but I'm scheduled to take 200 mg. 1x a day. She said she hasn't had any patient have any issues at all with it.

I'm at 200 mg myself but it's only every five days! I don't know if I could take it everyday! It's not causing me any severe side effects just a little dizziness a few hours after taking it and some nightmares. The night sweats are almost every night too.
