I have tried melatonin and that did nothing for me. Lately I've been taking a large dose of magnesium right before I go to sleep (1000mg+) that seems to work some of the time but I also wake up pretty early. If I can tell I'm in for a very restless or painful night, I take 50mg of benadryl and that works well for me.
Have you discussed this with your doctor? This sounds dangerous. The safe upper limit for magnesium supplementation is supposed to be 350mg. You can tolerate a lot more magnesium than that from natural sources, but for some reason, the artificial supplementation is worse.
