(((Hugs to you all and your children!!!))) Thanks for sharing your stories. I too had Lyme during my pregnancy and lost my twins before having my son who is now 3 years old.
My Lyme Doc told me something pretty remarkable that has made me feel much better about my son and his chances of developing active Lyme. She told me that many Americans probably have Lyme bacteria, but that most Americans immune systems keep it suppressed. (Kind of like how most of us carry strep bacteria somewhere but we don't have active illness from it. Our immune systems keep the strep in a balance.) This makes a lot of sense to me. My immune system is the thing that's messed up, and while I am treating Lyme actively, I'm also working on supporting and strengthening my immune system.
As for my son, he is doing great. I breastfed him til he was 2 1/2 and now I give him a daily vitamin, Vit D (more than 400 IUs), a good quality kid's fish oil and kid's probiotics. He also doesn't have a lot of sugar and NO high fructose corn syrup, lots of fruits and veggies (when I can get him to eat them) He's had several odd rashes and a strange tooth problem (Early Childhood Cavies), but he's growing and developing properly and isn't sickly. I feel good about proactively supporting his developing immune system. A lot of health practitioners believe that 80% of our immune system resides within our digestive tract.
I will continue to watch him like a hawk (and my other daughters too) but I wanted to share this with you because I really believe that children can be born carrying the bacteria AND remain healthy.
Justascarf2- Re, your Dd's food allergies... is one of them peanut allergy? At the risk of controversy, I wanted to share that you may be interested to read info about vaccines contributing to food allergies. Several vaccines contain peanut oil and other food products as culture mediums and adjuvants. Since vaxes are created to stimulate the immune system, there are theories that since they contain ingredients derived from food, they may trigger an allergy. I don't have anything to validate these theories, but I find it interesting to consider the possibility, especially since the statistics of severe life threatening allergies has risen dramatically during a time when vaccination requirements have increased.
