no herx??

What abx and at what dosage are you taking?

Herxing is not a requirement, it can only help confirm that you are on the right track for treating these infections - and not everyone herxes.

Are you detoxing? That could explain a lot. If you aren't you should still seriously consider starting.

You said you've been on this for about a month, you could still see herxing in your second month. By the second or third month you could be seeing improvements which would also confirm that you are on the right track.

You may be someone who detoxes exceptionally well. I herxed severely on doxy and plaquenil. I have not taken Flagyl yet but that is supposed to cause a severe herx in most people with Lyme.

I think it's a good sign that your symptoms are milder. That is our ultimate goal in taking abx or herbs for Lyme. I wouldn't worry about it not working. Your doses are appropriately high. Do you have any co-infections clinically (as the testing is not very accurate)? The combo you're taking appears to be most active against Lyme.

If a co-infection is your main problem and you aren't taking meds that hit it, that could explain the lack of a herx.

I have not heard of Bab 1, is that a Byron White herb? Did you ever take Mepron or Malarone and zithromax? Did you herx on that?

In that case, my non-medically trained opinion would be that when you start specifically treating the infection that is most active, you will probably experience an undeniable herx.

What you are taking right now is primarily a Lyme protocol except for Bab-1. I don't have experience with that one, but generally the herbs that are effective for babesia are cryptolepis and artemisinin. Mepron or Malarone with zithromax are the most common antibiotic combos for babesia.

As far as the antibiotics go for bartonella, generally a bart protocol is based on either Rifampin or the Quinolones (cipro, factive, levaquin). Usually a bart core protocol has one of the above and doxy, mino or bactrim.

are you taking all of these abx at one time decfire? or one at a time till gone then moving on to next abx? My LLMD said only do one at a time.. doxy was/is killing my tummy.. switching to next abx cefuroxime.. and or course nystatin.. 4 pill 4x a day.. supplements.. sick of pills !

There are exceptions to that, as with most things. I was treated for Lyme first as well, with the knowledge that I will have to go back and retreat for it at a later date. My doc and I agreed this would be the best approach because at that time, my main symptoms were from my Lyme infection.

Three months into my Lyme treatment, I was seeing enough improvements we choose to add in treating my Bartonella infection, as those were then next set of symptoms that were really bad.

I treated for Lyme for a total of 9 months and Bartonella for 6 months. At that time we went after my Babesia infection - which is proving to be very hard for me to get rid of it. Now I'm starting to see small signs of my Lyme and Bart infection stirring, and those herbs can't be combined with the Babesia herbs I've been using.

So it's been a careful balancing act for me. Of course we have been working hard on my immune system and other issues as well.

I don't see any reason for you to be terribly concerned, but I would encourage you to ask your doc about it. You ought to know what the plan is.

Taking one abx at a time won't go after all of the different forms of the bacteria. It's possible that your doc is easing you into things, trying to find just the ones that you can tolerate. I would suggest that you talk with your doc as well though. Find out what the plan is.

Very few LLMD's prescribe one antibiotic at a time for a long length of time unless also using fairly strong herbs. Doing one med at a time and then switching to a new one frequently is not a common approach for a LLMD. I agree that he or she may be trying to see which ones are causing sensitivities in you before jumping to a more aggressive protocol.

Decfire, some LLMD's do treat Lyme first and they feel like once Lyme is under control, the immune system will be better apt to handle the co-infections. Every doctor will have a different opinion on which infection to treat first.

I didn't mean to suggest that the approach of going after Lyme first was inadequate. I just thought it might explain why you aren't herxing since you aren't taking the meds that directly address bart or babesia and they may be what's causing the majority of your symptoms. Which one do you feel is causing your primary symptoms?

For me right now it's probably bart and babesia so I tend to push for combos that address those. The combo that you're on is not considered a weak combo though. It's actually a very strong and well thought out combo for Lyme. Especially the addition of Plaquenil which will enhance biaxin and help Flagyl with cysts.
