Heather was found to be off-the-scale allergic to dairy and moderately/high allergic to glutens when she was tested by her first LLMD over 4 years ago. She immediately went dairy and gluten free and continues to this very day. She is completely Lyme symptom free and her dairy and gluten allergies are relatively mild now. Dr. J. told us that it can take several years to completely eliminate these allergies, and some people are unable to complete eliminate them. Heather has chosen to stay on a dairy and gluten free diet indefinitely. She does make an exception twice a year though. She eats anything that she wants on Christmas day and she eats everything and anything she wants for one week in August, when she has a little time off from swimming, and we usually go on vacation. That week usually makes her feel a little less than perfect, but she is willing to pay the price to enjoy ice cream, pizza, cheese, and delicious breads. She notices that every time that she allows for the exception, that the negative effects are less than the time before.
Now, getting back to your question. Heather was already very very sick before she was even tested for those allergies. She noticed very little improvement when she went dairy and gluten free. She felt that it helped her gastro-intestinal system a little. Heather had already been suffering from her lyme and coinfections miserably. The herxes and the antibiotics themselves brought on another whole level of suffering. When a person is already extremely suffering from several sources, it is difficult to tell how much such a diet change makes.
After Heather had been treated by Dr. J. we took a family vacation about
4 months later. Heather had a large hot fudge sundae at Ghiardelli Square in San Fransisco. She definitely paid the price for that! She said that she felt like she had the flu for 3 days.... poor girl. That was 2.5 years ago, and her reaction is a lot milder now. Still, she sticks to the diet, other than the exceptions that I have mentioned. She is very very conscientious. She even avoids refined sugars, as she wants to be in top health for her swimming.
After being treated at Hansa, she continued using the at-home-protocol for about
10 months. Although lyme symptom free, she continued on her special diet other than the exceptions.
If we think through this logically, we can determine that the factors vary a lot for each person. When Heather was at her most ill stage, going on the special diet was barely noticed, because the other factors to make her sick were so extreme. Then much later, when the other factors were eliminated, her allegic effects were noticed very strongly when she violated her special diet. Finally, as she is slowly eliminating her allergies, there are now no known factors to make her feel sick at any time. There are variables for everybody such as- baseline health, disease profile, herxes, detox status, degree of allergy, toxicity of treatment, living environment, and mental outlook.
Are you sure that you have Lyme or any coinfections? You might want to stay on the strict diet wile using the Jernigan products for another month or so. Then, discontinue the Jernigan products for a month or so as a test to see what happens. If you don't feel any worse, or get then you may not need the Jernigan products, or, they are not effective for you. It you feel worse after a month, then, it may be that they are a useful tool for you to become well. This is what I would do, and good luck with it!
