10 Days on Doxy and Muscles Still Ache?

It is if you have chronic Lyme. I'm over a year into treatment and my muscles still hurt. 100mg of doxy 2x per day is not adequate to address anything but a VERY early uncomplicated case of pure Lyme with no co-infections.

200 mgs of Doxy a day can't kill the Lyme bacteria, it can only stop it from replicating. So any improvements will soon disappear as soon as abx are stopped, because the infection is still there.

Well, according to Dr. Joseph Burrascano's "Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease" - which many LLMD's use as reference - for Lyme disease, he suggests that 400 to 600 mgs of Doxy a day be used - 200mgs two or three times a day. Although he is a supporter of IV abx with chronic Lyme.

There are many reasons why chronic Lyme treatments may not work. Viruses, co-infections -including other infections such as Mycoplasma and others, previous steroid use (for any reason), and others. Not to mention that a body has to be able to detox or it will be so overwhelmed with toxins that treatment must be stopped as the symptoms become too overwheling.

For an Ehrlichia infection, Dr. Burrascano suggest this:
"Standard treatment consists of Doxycycline, 200 mg daily for two to four weeks." So standard Lyme treatment can clear an Ehrlichia infection. Although, he also states that sometimes treatment with Doxy may not work, in which case he says: "consideration may be given for adding rifampin, 600 mg daily, to the regimen."

Of course there as many different treatment protocols as there are doctors treating these infections, so there are many thoughts on all of this. Be sure that whatever protocol you and your doc are following that you are seeing progress within months. If there is no progress, then something is preventing the healing. It's then time to start digging to find what is going on.

This is part of the reason the researchers say that these infections are so complex. It can be hard to know just what's preventing a person from healing. It could be the presence of another tick-borne infection, or the body not being able to detox well enough, or viruses or other things like needing to have mercury filling removed, needing more support for things like thyroid issues, adrenal issues or other things. If you don't have improvement soon, you might want to consider going to a Holistic doc to help you get your body in the 'right place' to heal.

Sounds like your doc is on the right track though - if you are herxing much, you aren't healing much, so backing down your dosage like that was a good thing! Do make sure that you are detoxing and are limiting the toxins that you put in your body with all that you have control over.
