Awkward Question......Can I give my husband Lyme through sex?

So at the end of my appt with my LLMD - as I'm leaving she says - "And by the way, don't have sex with your husband - you can give it to him". Can anyone verify this? When I asked her about this in a prior visit - she said no, now she's proactivly telling me this. I got married 6 months ago - and got sick on our honeymoon.....it's been a rough 7 months.

Hey. It's speculation (not proven, as far as I know), but I personally believe that you can give it to your partner during sex. Not sure what else to tell you other than that, but as much as it sucks (or doesn't suck, pardon my pun) you should have a conversation with him to find out whether he is willing to risk it or not. If I were you and he decides he wants to risk it, I would have antibiotics on hand (doxycycline and azithromycin or cipro) just in case he develops symptoms. Symptoms being pain or sensitivity in the testicles, burning while peeing, or anything like that.

But I am not a doctor, just a reallllllly well-informed male lymer. So I recommend that you take it up with a doc for approval. ;-)

Umm thats a silly thing for your dr to say. You're married. Of course your going to be having sex. Well hopefully. It hasnt been proven but I also think its a possibility. My GP told me to wait 3 days after my cycle ended to make sure there wouldnt be any blood transfer. But for sure sit down and ask how your hubby feels about it. Are you on birthcontrol? ( I dont actually need the anwser lol) if you are maybe switch to condoms. Could equal out in price....

I think it's true. Until someone can definitely say it can never happen, I think it should be treated like it is.

I've read that female-male transmission risks are lower than male-female, if that makes you feel better.

My Dr thinks transmission by sex is possible, although there's no 'official' proof (well, there's no proof at all concerning this disease - lol). But he adviced me to check my husband (so that he doesn't reinfect me when I'm getting better), and that's what we're gonna do tomorrow. I'll ask some more about it tomorrow...

My practicioner also thinks it's possible. In fact, she tested my Husband, and he has a low CD57 and low vit D - which she thinks means he has lyme. He did an igenex test, but it was negative.

He is staring to treat with herbals even though he has no symptoms. We'll see how it goes.

I am here to say that I have lyme, probably contracted from my husband. As is often the case, it took quite a long time to get his illness accurately diagnosed, and we think I contracted lyme while he was ill and misdiagnosed. Be kind to your spouses/significant others and use our experience as proof that it can happen.

I have had lyme since I was 12, was married and divorced, lived with a man for 4 yrs, and was engaged to another (Not all at the same time, but I had lyme the entire time). I did not use condoms with these men, and none of them contracted lyme, although I did pass it to my daughter through pregnancy. And I am still friends with these men and they are all fine.

Not saying that it isn't possible, just stating my experience.

I've wondered this also. It's probably more likely that man could pass it to the woman, but maybe just be "safe" for now.

Hi all,

 

Just back from my Dr's visit.

In his patient's files he says 70% of the partners of his patients with Bart have Bart too after testing. Most of them are not sick.
