Low CD 57 without Lyme Disease?

Hey everyone,

I'm interested to know what everyone's experiences have been with CD 57 levels. I had a Western Blot and a CD 57 test done through Igenex 1 year ago. My Western blot had a couple positive bands but was negative. My CD 57 was 31.

What's interesting to me is that i don't have any of the typical lyme symptoms. I have never had any joint pain, and very little pain in general. My main symptoms are GI. Nausea, stomach pain. Then some weakness/fatigue as well as low blood pressure.

I am chronically sick, that I know. But i do wonder if low CD 57 could be indicative of other chronic health problems....parasites, heavy metals, thyroid issues etc. I have researched this extensively yet it seems like no one can say for sure whether cd 57 is even directly related to JUST lyme or if it could be indicative of other health problems.

I've also read of some people having a low CD 57 (under 40) and yet still functioning normally! This makes me wonder if it holds any weight at all.

Have any of you seen/heard of low cd 57 levels in healthy people, or people without lyme?

I feel like this area needs a lot more research. It seems like doctors are even picking up on it...as many won't use the cd 57 test at all anymore and don't rely on it at all.

I've read that aside from chronic Lyme, low CD 57 numbers are associated with HIV and mycoplasma infections. I'm sure there could be other causes but its not the most researched thing...not too many docs are 100% sure.

My CD 57 have always been normal even at my sickest and I've had Lyme over 20 years. And all my co-infection testing has come out negative so the docs are at a loss. Its pretty much a guessing game. I hope someone else here can provide you with some more information.

If you have one or more positive bands on the western blot then you have an active lyme infection. the cd 57 confirms that.

I have a low CD-57 level, but it seems that my dominant infection isn't lyme but rather bartonella (and now babesia). Some doctors believe that low CD-57 is due to chronic tick-borne illness, but that doesn't mean lyme is your dominant infection. Still, it seems like doctors aren't comfortable using CD-57 to diagnose... But a low CD-57 coupled with symptoms of lyme or bartonella or babesia, etc., is worth considering.. Your symptoms sound a bit like mine... Maybe check the lists of co-infections symptoms and see if any of them resonate?
