Hi all. I was diagnosed with lymes disease a number of years ago. I was treated but have been suffering from flare ups where I felt like crap ever since. I just recently went to a LLMD and got a test for babesia and it showed up active. I've started treatment. One symptom I've been dealing with for years is anxiety and panic attacks. I'm wondering if I treat the babesia will the anxiety and panic attacks subside?

It should get better. Mine did--although I still get really anxious from time to time. I think more than anything it is PTSD from being so sick for so long. I'm always waiting for something catastrophic to happen and to get bad news. I think in time that will stop too. Hope you feel better.

Yes the anxiety will absolutely get better with treatment.  My husband was like a different person from babesia and is back to his old self again.  Anxiety and panic attacks are typical of babesia, lyme and bartonella and are horrible to deal with.  Boy was I ever glad to see them go!

Considering that you still have Lyme flares and you test positive for Babesia, I would suggest that you consider that you may not be done with Lyme treatment as well.

It's fairly well known that co-infections, such as Babesia, will prevent any Lyme treatment from being as effective as it can be.

Are you seeing a LLMD?

I believe the flare ups are from babesia not lyme flare ups. Its the malaria like sypmtoms...fever, chills, lethargic, etc. Been on some meds for a couple months now and I'm getting the night sweats. The other thing that has gotten worse it my vertigo. I'm hoping that will go away once I've killed this off, I'm not as confident that my anxiety will go away.

Hi there, I haven't been diagnosed with Babs but I know I have it. Between air hunger, depression at times, anxiety at times through the roof and feeling unbalanced without true vertigo. Chatting with doctor on Monday because until its treated my Lyme treatments wont ever be truly effective :-(

Sorry you're going through this. I pray the anxiety goes away.

Forgive me for misunderstanding what you said about the symptoms flares. I didn't realize that you were talking about the Babesia symptoms flaring.

As TheWryter has said, if you were treating Lyme while you had Babesia, it's likely that the Lyme infection isn't in full remission either. Dr. James Schaller has written extensively on this and you can find all kinds of info on his site; www.personalconsult.com/

Also have you had your thyroid and your adrenal glands checked out? Anxiety can be linked to them not functioning well also - especially if you've had these infections for long.

I did have my thyroid checked out and it was ok. I haven't had adrenal glands checked out. I actually don't know anything about that.

I would highly suggest that you check out this site - www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/
It helped me to figure out if I had adrenal and thyroid issues.

Adrenal issues more common than most realize - especially if one has a chronic infection, as this taxes the adrenals tremendously. It's always best to have them checked out.

Traveler-I checked out that site. I did the pupil/light test. I definitely had the fluttering pupil. I will ask my LLMD in a couple weeks for some further info. Thanks so much for shedding light on another thing I had no clue about. The more knowledge you arm yourself with the more help you can get. I actually did some hiking the other weekend and my body completely shut down on me out in the backcountry. I barely made it out of there on my own two feet. It turned into a pretty dangerous situation. I think my blood sugar dropped drastically, which is one thing I've learned the adrenal glands regulate. Just one more thing I need to get on top of.

Meeker, after my lyme diagnosis I found I had hypothyroidism which also caused hypoglycemia. Those attacks were awful and only time and food would make them stop. Now being treated for adrenal low cortisol and thyroid and am balanced out. No more "dropped sugar" etc.

I suspect like said above that the long term Lyme/Babs did a number on my body as well affecting the adrenals and thyroid. Thankfully that is one area that can be easily helped with meds.

Meeker I so agree about having information!! Information is power - power to deal with or get help with issues that we are having, and that's a big portion of what this site should be for! :-)
