Emotional component to disease

Many years ago I had a homeopath and a Rhuem tell me my illness (dx lupus and lyme) was exacerbated by my emotional state (at the time I had major anxious and depression). I thought they were both off their rocker for telling me this.

Well as many years past and I healed from both illnesses (funny to say both illnesses when in reality my body was sick...no need to give illness a name), I realized they were both right. My emotional state broke down my body and I needed to get to the core of my emotional pain.
My Osteopath told me I live too in my body and not enough outside my body....errr. she was right!

My healing journey helped me understand that ALL illness (the body doesn't care what name we give illness) is an illness of mind/body and soul.

Most people with illness are just looking for the magic pill to cure their symptoms, but rarely look deep into the cause. If you step on a nail and your foot hurt and you get infection, you just pull the nail out, and voila, you're healed. Other illnesses like Chronic Lyme, cancers MS etc..are not so cut and dry to heal.

Each and every true illness has a deep emotional component to it. This does not mean illness is all "in our heads" or "does not exist". It means that when the emotional "person" is broken down, the body follows and the only way to truly heal is to fix the emotions along with the physical body.

You may ask yourself "well my illness caused the emotional break down" but that is not true. You don't just wake up one day sick. You had a story before that.
You can infect 100 ppl with Lyme and only a portion will get the actual illness. Why? Well it all depends on how strong they are to fight off illness.

I'm doing a mentor-ship under Dr Paul Epstein right now who is a MD, and is now an ND and who works with Dr Wayne Dyer. He believes in the mind/body connection to illness and has treated and helped heal many. I work with my own clients on mind/body and they are getting well...it's fascinating!

I made this post because I want to share with all of you this knowledge on your path to REAL healing. Unless you heal your emotional state, you cannot ever heal from any illness.

There is a MD here in Canada named Dr. Gabor Mate who talks about illness being attached to emotions. I would suggest you watch his videos or order his books. It will change your life and perspective on healing

WWJD...I am sensitive as well. I am a total empath and absorb all the energy around me (prob what makes me a great healer), but you can learn healthy detachment.

Please let me know what you thought of the articles.
I am organizing a seminar with Dr Epstein and will be doing the 3 day courses with him, so as I learn more, will continue to share

Garfield: don't try too hard, healing has a way of finding us sometimes.
Illness is not for sissies for sure, but sissies do tend to learn strength from the almighty punch to the soul from it...hahah!

I learned a valuable piece of info from Dr Epstein. When I talked about my own emotions and past and ask him
"how do I let go of the past and the pain?" His reply was "You need not let go, you need to let be. Live in the pain and be comfortable with the pain. This is where the pain then drops away when we accept it instead of running from it and TRYING so hard to let go"

Made so much sense to me and since, I am been letting it be and not letting it go.....

I started treatment beginning of August last year. Just before the holidays in December I had this urge to start dealing with my past, spiritual side, etc.

It's another thing on my already overfull plate, but I feel I need to handle the things from my past, my traumas and that I should work on my inner child. I feel there's too much anger inside of me (partly because of all the health problems I had in my life - this just can't be beneficial for my healing process). So I started dealing with these subjects - it's not easy, but I feel I need to do it in order to heal entirely, and for good.

But these are just my own reflections...

NSpeed....A trained Psychologist does not get the training in medical school with Mind/Body Medicine.
You're certainly entitled to your "educated" opinion, but I am a trained Naturopath (in mind/body as well) and have and do deal with many pt's on a daily basis with illness (physical and emotional) where I've had a lot of success with the mind/body connection and healing.
You disagree only because you're unfamiliar with this way of healing. Many psych's (PHD and MD"s) take Dr Paul Epstein's courses to learn about the mind/body connected to illness.

As a trained person, if you feel my words are "blaming the victim", then you probably need to investigate my words further. First off, no one is a victim (and as someone who is trained, you should know this), but we are all co creators of what we have and are.
A tick bite, cancer, whatever illness is not the fault of the person, it's how they heal and how strong they are to heal which is the issue. You can infect 10 ppl with a virus and the fact is, not all of them will get it and not all of them will heal from it and some of them will fully heal from it. Why all different scenarios? You figure it out!
There is no blame in healing, only each persons reality to where they are and how they got that way.

I can assure you, I have a way better understanding of people and illness than anything you learned in school using books. Learning about the human condition doesn't come from a book, it comes from living a and breathing your own healing.
My words will not penetrate everyone or speak to everyone, but I'm merely sharing how my experience of true healing happened for me and many others.
Your thinking it very black/white , so I won't even try to convince you of the mind/body connection. I can only hope your journey brings you there. I'm also going to assume you're young and new to practice from your reply to me.

Here is a good example (one of a 100 I can give you)...I have a client who's had UTI' s non stop for over a year. She is 68 yrs old, healthy and in great shape. Her MD"s have given her every abx under the sun and I have given her every herb under the son. Yet she was not healing.
When I finally encouraged her to face her emotions (She's a very stoic, non emotional, well off woman) about her failing marriage and her childhood pain of her Dad leaving, her UTI's went away and for good. She has been uti free for close to 2 yrs now......

So you insulting my work as "the secret type garbage" is pathetic, since you don't even know one iota of my work. I don't heal using the "law of attraction".
You can google me and google Dr Paul Epstein and Dr Gabor Mate and then you may get an inkling of how I work.
Until then, you're assumptions are not appreciated.



Marie, that is great...there is a book called "healing the inner child" ..may be something you would like to read.
We all have childhood "wounds" even if we had great upbringings.
No one will ever heal until they deal with their spiritual side.

No one is name calling? And agreeing and disagreeing is a great learning tool, but when someone insults my work, I have a right to defend it.

I personally strongly believe in the body-mind connection. I've seen that relationship played out many times in real life. I can use myself as an object study. If I am happy and at peace then I tend not to catch colds or cold sores. If I have a great amount of inner turmoil, and unresolved conflict, then I will catch colds and have cold sore eruptions. That is simple cause-and-effect relationship. Have we not seen when an elderly person looses the will to live , because of the loss of a spouse, that they soon die?

Conventional medicine does in fact recognize that prolonged emotional stress will eventually cause endocrine gland dysfunction, and a domino effect cascade of physical deterioration. This isn't rocket science at all. I would hope that they are teaching this in med school as well.

The 2 of you are free to disagree with each other. However, both of you crossed the line and got "personal". I am not going to rehash any of this, and cite examples. You are both intelligent individuals, and can figure out where you went wrong. Nspeedracer first personally insulted Peacesoul, and then Peacesoul retaliated. Let us please refrain from personal attacks. We are all on the same side here.

You are 1000% correct!  Addressing any illness and getting better is to address the body, mind and spirit.   I feel sorry for people that don't understand yet there is nothing we can do about that.  Everyone has to find their own path to heal.  

And yes, some people do think that if they take a pill they will get better.  So these type of people are limited in their thinking and all we can do is feel sorry for them and wish them the best.

I guess the bottom line is to respect everyone's way of thinking even when their way doesn't help them heal.  Hopefully as time goes on they learn a more positive way... 

And as Razzle said "even rectal thermometers have degrees"...

Im simply stating that overemphasizing the role that attitude plays has consequences.
Yes, some people take a pill to get better and some sit in a corner and wish really hard. Ill take the route that has scientific peer reviewed evidence. I mean you come this far to understand the mechanics of the bacteria and how medicines work then this?
Sure theres a connection, but I dont believe in magical inner children who control your bladder infections.
