Does anyone take Mepron?

My dr. wants me to take Mepron in addition to Artiminisin for Babs. She wants me to take it for a minimum of 3 months. Interesting to me b/c Stephen Buhner recommends Art. for 30-40 days, and that's it.

My dr. does say 4 days on and 3 days off for the Art wtih the mepron everyday.

Has anyone else taken Mepron?

 i don't take mepron to expensive, I take coartem which is the generic

of mepron...I take it 3 days out of the month.  Dr. said, stop all abx

while taking this but continue with supplements and vitamins...

Have you had a herx from it or any improvement? Yes, my dr. said it's $1,200 for a bottle that lasts 3 weeks. Luckily, my co-pay was only $50 for it.

My dr. said when she took it, it cost her $600/bottle.

Coartem isn't a generic for Mepron. Mepron is atovaquone and Coartem is a separate drug (artemether/lumefantrine). Coartem works similarly to artemisinin.

I have taken Mepron. Usually it's taken with zithromax to prevent resistance. I herxed pretty badly on it and my liver enzymes went up too high so I had to stop. It's also best to take Mepron with fat so it absorbs properly. I used to eat it with peanut butter or sugar free coconut milk ice cream.

Artemisinin is something I recently started to pulse and I herxed even more severely on that than Mepron. It's VERY tough for me to take it. I haven't had improvement yet from either of them, but hopefully soon.

I've been on mepron/zith for about 3 mos on and off.

The first month 1/2 I had bad herxing and with artemsia seemed to work well until I had a bad reaction to artemesia.

So now I am just on mepron/zith..improvement is slow but I feel some improvement. At this point I am deciding to go another route (chinese herb or other)... I am a bit concerned about how long I;ve been on antibios (over a year now)

I do need a break.

My daughter had Babesia Duncani. She took the Mepron and Azithromycin for 5.5 months. She started to relapse later. After the treatment at the Hansa Center, there was no relapse. I am not telling you that you must go to the Hansa Center to be cured, but I am telling you that i have seen a lot of patients having difficulty with using only the Mepron and Azithromycin combo. I would strongly urge you to augment your treatment with some of the herbal suggestions that have been suggested here.

If i were you, i would use the Jernigan product "Microbejan" in addition to your ABX. This approach combines the best of both worlds. The Microbejan provides information that will assist your immune system to combat the Babesia. I wish you well for whatever you decide.

Thanks for the information.

I am just curious, why microbojen rather than the other two antimicrobials lymogen or borealan (sp?)?

I am seriously considering this, however, there is not much online support from Jernigen's nutr.  I know they can not give medical advice but I'd like to know a bit more.  I have read Jernigan's book but I do have more questions...thanks
