Does your Medicaid cover IV Rocephin / Ceftriaxone ?

Hello all,

I've been doing research to try to find out if NY Medicaid (or CA, since I may be moving there within the year) has covered IV rocephin treatment for anyone, but am not finding a conclusive answer.

I understand that a majority of the time it will only cover one month of usage if prescribed by an in network doctor.

But, I did read that there was someone in CT that has had it covered under Medicaid for months now.

The program varies by state, so I was curious if anyone else has had success in getting their treatment covered?

Please chime in with specific details regarding if your state Medicaid has covered your IV therapy, and if so, to what extent.

Hopefully this can be used as a guide for other individuals looking for IV coverage through their local Medicaid programs.

I'm in Mi my Medicaid covers mine 100% even the at home nurse visits each week, though every state is different.

Thank you for your reply! I have a few other of these threads on other forums, so I'm going to repost that your state covers your IV to spread the word!

Hopefully it can help others who are looking for the information!

Okay, on another thread I was informed that Medicaid in California also covers long term treatment.

So far, the states that cover long term IV treatment are:

CT
MI
CA

I just got a post that Hawaii so far has covered one month of treatment for a fellow lymie. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Hawaii covers them for the long term!

yep, hawaii, i just got my picc today. we only talked about doing it for 4 weeks and the doc didnt say anything about it being limited to 4 weeks so hopefully it wont be too hard to keep going if its working

Does anyone know if IV treatment coverage under medicaid is dependent upon a current positive lyme test? The cdc has stated that lyme is primarily a clinical diagnosis.

Hello JessMi, I live in Michigan and I was recently diagnosed with lyme disease by a LLD. He is outside of my insurance network and he wants me be on iv Roceph for a month.I do have medicaid,and I am trying to figure out how to get them to cover it.Can you tell me what you did to get them to cover your treatment? Because I'm very sick and getting worser by the day ):

Hi LayTee--Sorry that you are so sick. I also have Lyme and my LLMD has ordered an IV rocephin. I have had a picc line for almost a month now and it is covered by Medicare along with the home nurse and weekly blood tests. But I will have this for another month also and maybe even longer. We will need to pay this on our own unless I can win an appeal for longer coverage.

The forum moderator here, Traveler, gave me some very helpful websites to go to for direction on extended insurance cov. And we can even contact our state Attorney General to advocate with us.

Hopefully Traveler or another moderator will come on board here to guide you to some helpful websites.

Oh, I live in Wisconsin BTW-- and I am wondering how coverage can differ by states???
