Infectious Disease doctors vs. Lyme Literate

I would much, much rather go to a Lyme Literate doctor...but I can't afford it (I can't work, I can't borrow from anyone, I don't have credit cards, can't take out a loan, and I have nothing of importance to sell). Sooo, my insurance covers my visits to Infectious Disease doctors. It's MUCH more affordable for me.

Has anyone gone to an Infectious Disease doctor and gotten diagnosed and treated that way?

Mine was a total waste of time and the guy was a d-bag. Lots of others have had similar experiences. But there are a few good ID docs out there that might be able to get you started.

No. You'd have better luck trying an integrative or naturopathic doctor that is covered under your plan. Most of them are more open to alternative treatment for Lyme. However, most will not treat as aggressively as the big name LLMD's. They can't. Right now the politics behind chronic Lyme are too controversial.

The IDSA is the main organization that states that Lyme in a chronic form doesn't exist, so they aren't going to treat you for a "non-existent" condition. I would not go to a doctor from that organization unless they are ILADS trained (converted). That means I wouldn't go to 99.9% of them.

See, that's what I keep hearing from people. My primary doctor keeps saying I need to see a neurologist about the Lyme, but I am soooo tired of seeing more and more doctors and reaching dead ends because they can't or won't figure it out or listen to me. I already saw a neuro and he laughed at me, telling me that there's no Lyme disease at all in California.

It's just that I REALLY don't know what to do at this point. I need to see a doctor and get diagnosed so I can start treatment.

Nope...I'm way down in Southern California, L.A.County. It would be easier to find a good LLMD in Northern Cali! They seem to have quite a few up there.

I saw many neurologists and not one of them was able to properlyd diagnose me with LD.

ID drs. are typically worthless.

I agree with what others said, try to find an integrative, holistic, or Naturopath on your plan. And beg, borrow, and steal (ok, maybe don't steal), to get to a LLMD.

The problem is that my parents don't buy this "Lyme disease" thing. They just don't think it's real or that I have it. They're the ones paying for my visit to the Infectious Disease doc...even though I told them it would most likely be a waste of time.

I don't know how to generate money for the LLMD. It's $550 for the first visit, $600 for the tests, and then whatever the heck the treatment is going to cost. I need to do this soon...I truly feel like I am dying.

The odds are really stacked against you with the ID doctor. On the other hand, maybe we shouldn't prejudge this doctor. There are a few of them that are competent. Maybe you will experience a miracle.

It sounds to me that the choice of doctor isn't the most pressing issue. It sounds like your parents need to be educated about the Lyme paradigm. Have they seen the "Under Our Skin" documentary? I highly recommend it as a starting point to get your parents up to speed!

There are many videos out there about LD. I would recommend finding good info. and videos about LD and other patients experiences with it to help educate your parents.

Yolanda, from Bev. Hills Housewives has LD. Here is a recent speech of hers about it at a lyme fundraiser.

Show them stuff like this-that shows very competent, educated people talking about it.
