Onepixel,
The biggest help I got for my pain levels was herbal treatments and acupuncture. I think a lot of my knee (& other joints) pain is due to Lyme arthritis, and I'm currently looking to find more articles on this to try to figure out if I still need more treatment or if I just have damage that I'll have to live with.
I also use turmeric (helps with inflammation) & ginger (helps with nausea and with inflammation) - but by far, it was the acupuncture that helped me the most with pain and getting all the different body parts functioning again!
I've use Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Herbs to heal from my infections, although I used this recipe (my doc had me change how to fix it) to treat my Lyme:
www.mistymeadows.org/wendy.htmClick on the tab that says "Lyme Disease - A Practitioner's Experience and Discovery" .
In that pdf, on page 77 you will find the recipe for the "Chronic Tonic" and that is what I used (& in those amounts) and healed from Lyme in 9 months - at least that's what we believe at this time. I am currently holding off on all treatments to see if I am truly healed, or if I should need a bit more treatment.
Bartonella is another big one that creates a lot of pain -at least it was for me. I only used Houttuynia (whole leaf herb, not the powder) to treat my Bart infection for 6 months and I haven't had any issues with it since.
Everyone will have their own specific things that work for them, as Lyme plays on our body's weaknesses, so it takes something different - at least slightly different - for us to heal.
One of the biggest mistakes people make (I think anyway) is that they will use a practitioner that isn't as experienced as they need. For acupuncture, a person needs to find someone who has gone to a 4 years school for training and then did years of apprenticeship - not a doc that's just added it on to his 'bag of tricks'. They can't possibly read the pulses and know which organs to stimulate to help the body function. For those who don't know - the needles don't go into the organs, only "points" which will stimulate the different organs.
Just don't forget, these are very complex diseases needing practitioners that really know what they are doing!
And always feel free to send me a personal email any time you wish to talk to me in a more private manner.
