Has anyone taken Baclofen?

Hi all,

I recently started taking baclofen for neck pain & muscle pain/spasms. The first day I felt very nauseous, the second day my stomach was upset. The next few days were more stomach cramping, and then today I'm having major stomach pains, upset stomach, cold chills.

I feel certain it's from taking the baclofen. I'm only taking a fourth-half a dose at a time, and it has really worked wonders for my neck pain. I've tried so many other muscle relaxers, but couldn't take those for different reasons. So I really wanted this one to work out.

I can't take any NSAIDs for similar reasons (causes major stomach problems). I'm worried this is another to add to that list :-/

Hi Lymer,

I also take Baclofen as it helps my spasms tremendously. I had to stop taking it in the past because of stomach issues. One pill would keep me up all night with horrible stomach pain.

Here's my Baclofen trick:

I use a pill cutter and cut the pill into fourths. I then empty one of my vitamin capsules (or you could buy empty capsules), and put the four small pieces in the capsule, close it and swallow it down with water. I've had no stomach problems since doing this as the Baclofen does not dissolve in the stomach but rather in the small bowel where it is absorbed into your system.

Actually, if the capsules are big enough you just have to cut the pill in half... when you get down to quarters, they get powdery.

Have you tried magnesium supplements, Epsom salt bath soaks, or magnesium oil applied topically to help with these muscle issues?

Muscle cramping/stiffness is often due to magnesium deficiency or electrolyte imbalance in the muscle tissue itself. Correcting the deficiency will cure the symptom, if this is the cause.

Yes, I took Baclofen when I had a severe bout with chronic nerve pain and increased spasticity. It helped, and I never had stomach trouble with it. Do you take it with food? I always did mine.

Razzle- I have found that I must take with food, but some irritation still comes on after I take it (I took on an empty stomach and got very sick). I have a pretty sensitive stomach though, there are many meds I can't take for this reason :-/

Razzle - yes I take magnesium and I do the Epsom salt baths on occasion. I can't do them too often because I have a major increase in symptoms afterwards
