Western Blot: IgG Positive IgM Negative??

Can anyone explain this result beyond my doctor's words: "You had Lyme at some poijnt, but the infection is presently inactive." He stopped the abx. And I still have symptoms but to a lesser extent---it seems. Could the abx have been responsible for the IgM negative? I took the test 10 days into the 3 week regimen.

I thought i would be easily able to research this result but i cannot find anything on it. Thanks for any response.

i'm lost also on the IGG.. i had 4 bands positive with 1 +. but the IGM was neg.. my question is, like stated above.. if the IGG is positive but the IGM is neg, does that mean the lyme is in remission?

My neuro and ID both said IgM means active as in new infection and IgG is old exsposure that isnt active at the time. but if your positive on either of the 2 you have lyme. this is just how i understand it. i may be wrong . its happened b4..LOL

The WB is not a perfect test. I think the determination of whether Lyme is currently active or not needs to be made in light of the positive IgG result (exposure at some point to Lyme) and current clinical symptoms. It is my opinion that if you have symptoms consistant with Lyme/coinfections that can't be explained by something else, then the Lyme/coinfections is/are likely to blame and thus treatment should be continued. This is purely my opinion - I am a fellow patient, not an MD.

I am no expert or Dr either.  But I believe it was Dr. Burr who said that generally (nothing is always the sam in Lyme), an IgM + will become IgG+ in 3-4 months.  I do not know exactly what this means, but he said nothing about the infection no longer being active.  I believe IgG just generally indicates an older infection.

I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong, but this is what I've found when searching interpretaions of the WB.

If you have symptoms of lyme with those test results, then you most likely have it actively and its a more chronic stage as of this point.

I guess I was kind of wishing the IgM negative countered the IgG positive, but I guess the reverse might more likely be the case. That is: an IgG positive can be past and present.

This is interesting because my symptoms started this summer. But again as one responder said the WB is not fully accurate, and that different tests can offer different results.

In any case, thanks for all your responses. They are helpful.

My igm is all positive with four markers neg llg but anouther test says lyme llg/lgm test high 1.27 normal 0-.90 everyone says there all false positives because I have been sick for so many years
