I seem to visit the forum in fits and starts. The last time I was here I was considering transitioning from antibiotics to herbal treatment for Lyme. It's been about a month now of being off of the Abx, and I've made the decision to go back on.
I feel good about it, even though I'm not particularly excited for the immediate road ahead. I recently saw a new LLMD who studied under Dr. H in NY, and based on her recommendation I'm going to try 3 more months of various Abx.
I was still symptomatic when I switched to just herbal treatments, having a pretty heavy crash each month around my menstrual cycle. She indicated that this means I was not ready to stop the Abx.
So, I am, one by one, going back on doxy, rifampin, flagyl, nystatin, and then plaquenil. It's a lot! She thinks that treating for about 3 more months of this, then switching to Cowden's protocol or Byron White will be the way ahead. Since she and Dr. H have had a good track record for treating Lyme, I trust her. Also, she's had it herself, so she understands.
Just wanted to give an update, in case anyone else was in my same situation of wanting to stop Abx. I wouldn't say that stopping them was a huge failure, but I don't think my body was yet in a position to fight the bacteria on it's own or with just the help of herbs.
