MS and Lymes?

So it sounds like things you read that they are very connected lymes and MS. So when do you know what is what? After MRI's and my regular Dr. saying this and that. Then I go to my lymes Dr. and she says no you have lymes. Why is it still so hard to believe this diagnosis? I still struggle with listening to all my negative family members that say to keep going to real Drs. I know they are full of it but they make me so insecure.  And I know this doesn't help my treatment. I like tell them you start to pay the medical bills and the tests!..........How many MRI's and tests have we all had to try to prove people wrong. I quit no more I am going to finally except that I have lymes. After 2 yrs. of testing and being in lyme treatment for 7 months. Sorry I just tired of trying to make everyone believe me. NO MORE!

Andy- There are many docs that believe that MS is often Lyme Disease. It seems kind of suspicious to me that the same docs that are denying Lyme are also saying that there is no known cause of MS. When they deny the obvious, then, what are they left with?

Unfortunately most people don't have a clue when it comes to Lyme and the issues associated with it. Always be polite to the ignorant family members, but chart your own path to wellness. If you don't you will never become well. This Lyme community exists for your support.

I was told I had Ms, before I found out I had Lyme.

A infectious disease doctor also told me I was to sick to have MS, but not sick looking enough to have Lyme, so I fired him. lol

I agree with Don, the doctors don't know enough about Lyme so they label it Ms, or in my case, I was told I had CFS, Lupus, Auto Immune, Fibro and really I just had Lyme.

If I would of allowed them to treat me with for Ms and put steroids in my body, I would be worse instead of what I believe is on my way to remission.

Thank you for mentioning the steroid shots Andy. Toby was getting B-12 injections 2 years ago which made us wonder if those injections triggered the Lyme. Of course we can't be sure, but he started having problems with his arms while getting them. What's puzzling though is that he did have problems with his thumb before the injections.

@Cat B12 actually shouldn't trigger Lyme. Lyme depletes B12 in the body.

It's like my husband says...they find names for these illnesses based on common symptoms and testing. It's really difficult to explain to people that the root cause is Lyme. When I told friends/family Toby has Lyme, they breathe a sigh of relief saying they are happy he doesn't have ALS. They see it as a misdiagnosis. He does have what they call ALS but the root cause is Lyme. It's not easy to explain to people. Opu, I meant that the injections themselves may have triggered the Lyme. I am assuming the Lyme depleted B12 in his body when he needed to take it. The Intel doc asked him if he wanted the injections instead of pills for faster absorption and he went with it. It was after starting those he started having problems with his arm and hand. He regrets taking the injections, but I imagine Lyme would have shown up eventually.

Yes the abx made my lymes go crazy and that was when my LLND says we are on the right track. Everyone else in the world takes antibiotics for stuff and they feel great they just made my symptoms go crazy. That really freaked the regular MD Dr. I went to and he just threw his hands up and said I have know clue and go with the LLND. I actually got him to admit that there are so many people that they have no clue what they have..........guess this is my calling to educate the Drs.!

Cat, my doctor feels that the B vitamins feed Lyme bacteria.

Now I am really confused. Like I said, I thought Lyme depleted the B12, but Bluebyyou, your doctor thinks that B vitamins feed the Lyme. Could that mean that when Toby got the B12 injections, the Vitamin could have "empowered" the Lyme, so to speak. He started having symptoms about 5 months before taking the injections and then it got much worse after starting them. Now this concerns me because Toby is taking B12 in pill form. Wow..then Andy says the vitamins causes her problems. Should my husband stop taking them? I wish they could get this figured out.

I'm not totally clear on the subject either.

My doctor wants me to take Vitamin D supplements, but no other vitamins, especially the B vitamins. He feels that I can get enough of everything through diet alone. He feels like the body is trying to "starve" the disease.

That's the crazy thing. Once people have been tested or told they have Lyme, they have to decide which kind of treatment they think is right for them. Without proper diagnosis and guidelines to follow in the medical community, it makes it extremely difficult for people to know which direction to go in getting help. I think it's a travesty and there isn't any justification for this. Letting people suffer and sometimes die is a crime against humanity.
