Hello, my name is Carol, I am 21 and I am very new to Lyme disease. I know its serious and to be honest it scares me.

about three weeks ago i was bitten by a tick, the bite looked redder than usual, then it went away and came back larger than before. i felt strange. My muscles didn't fill right and I had a weird headache.

I was advised not to go to the doctor, and to put neosporin on it.

It was Sunday, and my primary doctor was closed. Despite the ridicule from friends thinking I was over reacting, I decided to go to an urgentcare facility anyway.

The urgentcare facility all but laughed at me as well. They told me they get tick bite all the time and sometimes theirs look funny for months and not to worry about it. I insisted on getting tested anyway. Initially she told me she would not prescribe me antibiotics but before I left for some strange reason she changed her mind. perhaps I made her feel guilty. She prescribed Doxycycline hyclate 100 mg twice daily then told me not to fill the prescriptions unless i had symptoms or the test came back positive.
psh. I filled it that day.

Monday: I set an appointment for my regular doc.

Tuesday:
Scheduling was off, so I missed appointment, became disheartened, and felt as if maybe I was over reacting.

Wensday: doxy made me fill sick.

Thursday: the test results came back in as positive. Mixed emotions. Glad that I caught it and that i didn't listen to my friends or the doctor. Scared because I actually have it and I don't know what to expect.

Friday: I set another appointment with my regular doctor with in the next hour.


Any advise is welcome and do i need to see a LLMD?

If So I live in In Virginia zip 24112 and I do have insurance.

If I were you I would see an llmd. No one would listen to me with my "tick" bite and it took me over six months to get a diagnosis. Time is of the essence. I am so sick now and early tratment could've prevented it!

Good for you, Infectious! You followed your instincts and took care of yourself despite ridicule, and that alone is evidence that you know how to handle the lyme healing process. It's okay to be scared, but take heart! There are many on here who can offer great insight (I am a newbie myself, just began treatment several months ago), so you are reaching out to the right community. If you need a LLMD in the DC area, I can recommend one.

Lyme disease is nothing to fool around with but the quicker you get it the better. Good for you that youdidn't listen to anyone. Its your body, not theirs. If your doctor is willing to treat you with antibiotics for at least 3 months, I would say no you don't need an LLMD. Since you did test positive, and didn't just find a tick embedded, do not listen to any doctor or anyone and just go with the three week protocol of treatment. It is simply not enough.

Do as much research as you can and keep a daily diary of any and all symptoms. This way you will everything documented.

Thank you for your responses. I just got back from my primary care doctor and he wants to keep me on the 14 day supply of doxy 100mg bid. I am interested in finding a LLMD but i dont know what steps I should take to find one. I live near martinsville va, between Greensboro and Roanoke, right above North Carolina. If anyone knows of one around that area that would be great.

Hi Carol,

Welcome to our forum! If you click on the "New to Lyme, Start Here " thread at the top of the lyme page there is loads of useful information on there on how to detox, lyme symptoms and how to go about getting treated.

You were wise to follow your instincts. Hopefully, your symptoms will start to subside rapidly since you caught it early. I would follow some of the other suggestions on here and get in to see an ILADS doctor. There will be lots of suggestions on here for relief!

Feel free to ask questions. This is a wonderful site with many great members and information. Please also read briefly through the guidelines for healingwell when you get a chance. I would also recommend keeping an open mind to alternative/herbal protocols.

With what I've told you guys do you think I have early or late lyme? Is a cure even possible?

the doctor didn't even talk to me about it... I'm left feeling confused and depressed. :[

The only thing the doctor said today was I hope your Lyme gets better.

You have early Lyme disease. If you get treated right away a cure is definitely possible. From what I understand your doctor should be prescribing 200mg of doxy 2X daily for 2 to 3 months. The 100mg 2x daily will keep it from proliferating. Hopefully, opugirl has sent you names of LLMD's that are ILADS affiliated near you so you can get on the ball and make an appointment. It can sometimes take a month or two to get in to see them. In the meantime try and stick to at least a low carb diet because the bacteria likes to feed on sugars and carbs.
