Just curious as to how your docs went about testing. I see some posting that their docs haven't tested them yet for coinfections. Mine had me come back the week following our initial visit to get that done, and I wasn't allowed to start my abx until she did.

I suppose it depends on the doc? And possibly funds? I looked at the prices on that Igenix lab and if my eyes still work, it looks like they'll be billing for about $800.

I guess I'm glad I got it out of the way, but just wondering if it would have mattered if I'd waited until I had an extra $800 for that panel. Lol. Like we all have extra $ after this!

I think it's good you got it done right away. I have a friend with lyme (5+ yrs) who said one of the mistakes they made was not testing and treating for coinfections soon enough.

My LLMD doesn't test for co-infections, but treats clinically. She said that the co-infection testing is very expensive, is even more inaccurate than lyme testing, and that even if it came back negative she would treat me based on clinical symptoms anyway. In some ways, I kind-of want to have them done anyway to see what it shows. Although, we are treating bart and babs now.

I am not sure that she is correct about coinfection testing.

I have found that many people test positive for 1 or more coinfections before they get a positive on a lyme test. This can help when doctors keep denying that anything is wrong with you.

The other concern I would have is that there are different treatment protocols for the coinfections. Some also feel that it can be important in treatment decisions in terms of what to treat and when.

Some insurance companies will cover the labs for the testing. Just something to think about.

This is just from my own experience and I hope others will chime in about their experiences too..

Hi there, we tested for all of the coinfections and they were negative but my Lyme was of course was positive. My doctor and I don't agree when it comes to coinfections (Babesia and Bart). I have all of the symptoms. So I found an herbalist/nutritionist thanks to Opugirl and we are treating for Bart and then Babesia. I don't have time to play with this illness. Go with your gut instinct. I love the doctors, ND's, etc that clinically diagnose because as we know Lyme and it's buddies can go under the radar.

I would have them done regardless of what any doctor tells you.

If they come up positive, then great. It was worth the money and time and then treatment methods will be a lot better than flying blind.

If they come up negative, then oh well, can still treat based on symptoms,

I say positive test results on paper are worth their weight in gold.
