I'm totally with Cat53 on this: since I stopped feeling guilty, and started to accept my limitations and live by them, I've been feeling more at ease in my mind. Stress about friends, social events, not being able to help, participate, etc is gone (it sometimes sticks it's head out, but I stick it back again).
Meditation helped me a lot with anxiety, and it doesn't take months to feel a difference, it works rather quickly.
