headaches, HELP! please.

Hi to all,

I have been having intense headaches, actually it is a very stiff achey neck and a very intense headache. I am looking for any suggestions of what people have tried that has helped them with these symptoms. I am allergic to advil and all the meds in that class, so they are not possible for me. I have tried extra strength tylenol and it doesn't seem to help much.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Hi. Have you ever tried Aleve? Its main ingredient is Naproxen, unlike Tylenol which has acetaminophen and Advil which had ibuprofen...It has always helped me in the past but just like the others, causes certain problems if taken long term. In my case, Aleve caused me stomach upset after several weeks.
The Aleve I have are 220mg per caplet and the bottle directions states you can take 2 caplets for the 1st dose within the 1st hour, but do not exceed 3 caplets in a 24 hour period.
I get these in any local pharmacy.
I hope this might be of some help. It rarely let me down with any kind of pain. Good Luck...

I also suffer from mind splitting migraines. I take a preventative and an abortive med but when they are bad nothing helps. On those days I use my rice pack, you know the ones you can heat in the microwave, and put it at the base of my neck and a gel ice pack on my forehead. The heat helps my stiff neck and halts the pain from creeping up my skull and the ice dulls the migraine and I just try to sleep also I have been know to take a Benadryl, Advil and Tylenol don't work for me at all. My daughter gets a massage from her dad whenever hers get bad, like yesterday. She was miserable and couldn't eat much or anything. She gets knots in her neck, and once those are worked out, she gets some relief, then has a "hangover" the next day, but she didn't today too much.

Homeopathy got rid of mine when I was very ill in my 20s. I'd get the knots too and it would be rare for me to not have a headache. I haven't had many since then, even though my neck is stiff most of the time.

I use a roll on peppermint oil.  It takes the edge off.  Also good for my stiff neck.

It seems like tension headaches to me. Have you considered seeing an osteopath to take away the pressure? It really helps... or accupuncture?

Well the migraine like headaches I get from Lyme & friends is only helped by prescription Butal. It is my last resort medication but it works. Nothing else touches these headaches, sometimes at night Advil pm helps too. But if not I try the Butal.

Good luck, these headaches are incapacitating.

A big thanks to everyone for the suggestions of what helps with these headaches. They are a new symptom to me and I had no clue. You suggestions are great.
