How many people here have an entire family with Lyme disease?

Myself, my father, my mother and my brother-- my entire immediate family all suffer from Lyme disease. I even think somehow I "gave" it to my boyfriend. How many people have an entire family who suffers from this disease?It is such a devastating disease and just to have one member of your family suffer from it is awful but it is my whole family. And to top it off, my dad is on a pic line which costs him (out of pocket) $1200 a month. He is helping me with my expenses as well and my mom. It is so scary and to think that there probably are so many families who have this disease and don't realize that this is the culprit of all their "little" health issues. I mean for so many years I had these annoying health issues but would have NEVER attributed it to LYME even though I knew my dad had LYME. I never ever thought I had it as well. I had endometriosis--Lyme because lyme uses your progesterone *(or more likely the bartonella)--, somehow it takes your progesterone and then you have this imbalance of horomones and the high estrogen is what causes endometriosis. I had chronic yeast infections, I had UTI's all the time, depression, anxiety, severe pms, and gastritis, and ibs. and the list goes on. But never did I think it was all because of LYME. SO SCARY! I feel stressed today and depressed that this disease is so prevalent and doctors really don't get it. I wish somebody "GOT IT" for me sooner...

Hi mumma, it was by sheer luck I found a good doctor. I think that is the key to this disease. If someone wants to live with it and possibly the long term effects that is their choice. Personally I do not want it leading into some degenerative nervous system disorder.

My son is being checked out for it right now. My husband I am quite sure has exposure but not developed symptoms. We had one foal here who almost died of anaplasmosis. I suspect she was a carrier and I have since sold all of the horses. If you have a herd of cattle or horses you have to be very diligent in treating them with tetracycline etc for most of the year with just one carrier in the herd. The carrier will never be sick again but can pass it to other herd member through fly bites etc. IMHO it is almost an impossible feat to get rid of it in the herd.

So I just talk to the family about symptoms how they can be subtle and to seek treatment right away if it creeps up. My son has chronic headaches which immediately improved with antibiotics. This may or may not be Lyme related. Although he has had them for 3 years.

It can be a real burden on a family as any disease is. I hope you regain your health and your family is healthy as well. Hugs.

Hi Mumma,

My sister has Bartonella and with that more than probably Lyme. That is what our dr is expecting. She's going through treatment in a very different way as I am. Not so many complications. But she hasn't been that sick for that long like me, it was only a few years ago that she starting having those fibromyalgic pains. I hope she keeps on coping 'well' with treatment.

We are lucky that we both found a good dr...

My dad must have been bitten so many times, he's been outdoors for all of his life, dealing with sheep and horses, living in very wooded areas, or just in the country. I feel though, that he has been thinking about it. I know my dad, he will make the decision of getting tested by his own. I passed all the information to him, and we are talking. I think he is more occupied with trying to quit smoking, cause they just discovered cancer with his sister (and 5 of his other brothers and sister had some kind of aggressive cancer, 3 of them died), so he's got other priorities now...

Hi Mumma,

My sister and I both have been very sick with Lyme for much of our lives, she being 31 and me 33 yrs. old. I was treated with IV antibiotics for several years and she was not treated but we both have now arrived to a place where we are still very sick and unable to function normally on a daily basis.

The pain and the neuro symptoms are terrible! We both have had seizures, hers have stopped but I continue to have them, she has a pseudo tumor that almost caused her to go blind and she also is bipolar which we believe was brought on by the Lyme, I have problems with lymphadema and clots, and we both deal with terrible memory problems and poor concentration. It's very hard to see the people you love suffer with an illness that you know is awful because u go through it yourself! Prayers to you and your family!
