What does Positive Band 41 Mean ?

Lyme was not on my radar screen until I was diagnosed. Well now my son came back positive band 41 on the WB.

He had headaches for the past 3 years and stomachaches intermittently. He complained of a few other vague ailments as well.

His headaches improved as soon as he began antibiotics. He hasnt had one since taking them. He is being treated by an excellent doc, thank God.

My questions is what does the positive band 41 mean exactly ? I have read some different information and would like to hear people's opinions.

From Dr. Jone's site:

41 flagellin protein of all spirochetes. This is usually the first to appear after a Bb infection and is specific for all Borrellia. Can be positive due to relapsing fever, oral spirochetes and syphilis. Flagella or tail protein. Flagella is used to move Borrelia burgdorferi from point to point. Many bacteria have flagella. This is the most common borreliosis antibody.

I am Band41 only BarnGurl. Igenex, drawn August.
I was bit and removed 2 ticks end of May, 1 swelled the other did not. Got sick (flu-like) with anxiety 3 weeks later with liver/gall bladder area pains.
Was on and off doxy all summer.
I have read that if you take a Lyme Test too soon after ABX, you can get a false negative.
I'm happy your son is feeling better, was he on any ABX before the test?
I have also read that Igenex suggests you be off ABX for at least 3 weeks, some people say 6.

Thanks mike. He's 8 years old and was not on abx at the time he was tested.

People in my family have thought I was nuts for suggesting he had lyme like I did. He's had chronic headaches for 3 years. He left basketball practice a few weeks ago and said his head hurt so bad he couldnt sit up.

I took him to the LLMD and we both knew it was lyme. We had his vision checked, perfect. He also had an MRI. We live in a tick infested area. Thank God he is getting treatment. It already was beginning to effect his school performance, athletic ability etc. Hope you are feeling better as well. How are you doing now ?

Well, I certainly don't think you are nuts. You sound like a great Mom. I hear all the time that children heal much faster than adults with Lyme, once properly Dx and treated. It must be a more robust immune system, not "tainted" from long term exposure to toxins in the way adults are.

As for myself, fatigue and yeast are my main problems. I just started Diflucan last week and the diet is the pits! There are many people on this forum with more serious issues and I take each day as it comes. I never know what is coming next. You get the picture. No use in complaining when I read these threads. It humbles me. I know my health will not return that quickly because I am SO sick, and I know it will be a long road ahead, but I am ready to do battle. Bring it on!!
